this sounds hopelessly idealistic and surly-owning of me, but is there any possibility that educating the employer about 'messenger culture' will do any good? polite explanation, perhaps show them a few websites, videos, photos online and point out that messengering by its very nature attracts tattooed/pierced sociopathic nutbars and it hasn't (really) caused any problems.

Fuckers! All I can say :|

I don't think they give a shit about messenger culture, just want someone to take a package from one place to another and look semi-respectable.

Lets all get suited up - shiny shoes an' all, and just head down there and demand an interview.

'respectable' (especially with a semi-) is debatable though. in cities with more messengers, nobody would bat an eyelid. in brum, they turn you down for employment. the employer in question should ask themselves what they expect for minimum wage... it's a dangerous job, which pretty much requires specialist clothing and equipment and a good standard of fitness.

I'm sure they don't, but they should be aware of it. If I called in a plumber to my house I wouldn't expect him to arrive in a uniform or not have tattoos/ear loops.

If this bloke turned up to fix my leaking pipes I'd tell him to piss off.

How is that fucking picture relevant? None of us look like that.
Stop trolling.
We're talking about your average alternative tattoos, hair or jewellery, the sort designers in the offices I deliver to have themselves.
The only way it will change is with time, they'd resist being sent to Dan's 're-education camps'. It's just a case of waiting until they move with the times, and meanwhile good riders aren't getting gigs.
Like I said, it sucks balls. -

If you were being serious, then may I ask why? -

I have been told that all they can say is for me to take them out
which in fairness would look worse but you can hardly see my plugs anyway cause my hair and hat cover them -
• #38
is the objection to the jewellery or the piercing? if they say the piercing, in writing, you might be able to get them on sex discrimination as they would not object to it on a female staff member.
Or just swallow it and get some clear/ flesh silicon plugs which people find less disturbing. -

Not only that, but they would be racists, and maybe aliens.

because he's not CORGI registered
looks photoshopped to me

lol i should have seen that coming.
hypothetically though, if he was corgi registered and was a perfectly competent plumber... no reason why he couldn't do his job like any other non-pierced non-tattooed plumber.
defo not photoshopped, i remember seeing him on a news story - probably about him not being able to get a job.

• #42
actually, corgi is out of date, so he wouldn't be qualified...

You'd never be better than DFL Ben!!!!

Oioioi, I wasn't the fastest, but I delivered my packages with a style and finesse that Birmingham will never again see from a courier.
Where I work, yes, don't know anything at Hobs.
I deliver to places where employees have full sleeve tattoos, lips pierced etc.
Fuck, I've even seen police with full arm tattoos.
And I don't think there is a case either. But I still wanted to say that it sucks, so I did, and I'll probably keep saying it for a few days...
