  • It'll fly off the shelves.

MTB'ers are just as posey as carbon weight weenies and fixie skidders.

Mud splattered credit cards are glowing white hot as we speak.

  • Think it might be hard for them to get a style that would fit MTBing and rapha. I agree with Mr Smyth too don't think I'd want to fork out loads for kit that could get wrecked easily without even crashing.

I'm off to Finale for a weeks MTBing on Sunday, can't wait. Looking forward to getting back on my MTB after a while off it, judging by my cross riding on Sunday I'm in for a lot of crashes!

  • He really knows how to fuck up a snappy title.

I couldn't find the thread. Now I can.

Hippy failed at search. USe the tags Hippy use the tags.

  • I just added appropriate tags, after I found the thread (I don't like not finding something with the first attempt).
If other people did this, UTFS would be more effective.

  • reported for internet bullying of yourself

  • I'm not sure if it's Saturdays or Sundays that you guys tend to go out on but i've got the day off tomorrow so was thinking of heading down to Dorking. Though I was thinking instead of plotting a route and following it along for the day, i'm more inclined to get there and cycle around with no real route/direction in mind. Mainly in the hope that i'll stumble upon some lovely trails. So if any of you folk are up for it get in touch.

  • was that a road race? why are they riding mtb's?

  • First 11 miles is on road.

  • Hoping for proper mud after today's rain

Clean and lube chains before we go.

Anyone want coffee at my place drop by my place before 9.30

  • You tempt me.

Now I need to remember where your house was...

  • Drop-bar mountain biking.....I like the concept. Sorry if a repost.

  • bundles of fun today with owain, john (hendrik), ben (unharmed)

john clearly has a great deal of experience and battered us all with his ss hardtail 26er

    great fun in swinley

awesome stacks from all of us except john, owain stuck on his back riding australian style begging for help was hilarious

my arse over tit stack onto my head and shoulder was equally foolish, huge bruising to shoulder and mild concussion, thankfully it happened at the end of the day.

great to go over some bits a few times and notice how we all improved on each visit

my final attempt at the corkscrew and did not even need to put a foot down

the lookout had a lower chav factor, but i did get sexually molested by a 4 year old

was queuing for a coffee and suddenly felt a hand run up my thigh and was very shocked to discover the age of the person it belonged to

hope these will become regular sessions - just need to check on the state of my shoulder for next week

johns knowledge of the terrain meant we spent a lot more time on singletrack than fire roads this time

    I was just resting, damnit.

More seriously it's a reet fucker to get out from under an upside down bike when you're on a downslope...

Definitely up for next weekend. Last chance before I move (probably).

I had that same scenario during the summer, last guy to go down, everybody else at the bottom looking up when someone spots my wheel just spinning around. Much hilarity ensued.

    They exist already, a la the On-one midge, Soma Junebug, Origin-8 Gary, Salsa Bell Lap/Woodchipper to name but a few;

  • Yup, definitely a good day out.

Apologies to the forum for breaking James. I think I need to change my advice about that route to - if you touch the brakes at all coming down the slope then don't do the drop off 'cos you won't make it!

johns knowledge of the terrain meant we spent a lot more time on singletrack than fire roads this time
Yeah, I might know a few bits but we still got somewhat lost upon occasion. Not least just trying to escape suburban hell and find the forest in the first place!

Re drop handlebar mountain bikes. They have indeed been around for a while. I'm sure I saw someone doing one of the Gorrick races on one a couple of years back.

It all looks far too scary to me though. Going head first down a bouncy, rocky track sounds positively suicidal! I'm also not sure what the purpose is? Is it purely a comfortable position thing? Are drop bars really more comfortable than sit-up-and-beg? Certainly, a fast aero crouch is not going to make a blind bit of difference to your single track or downhill run speed. Picking a better line and avoiding large obstacles / keeping it smooth and flowing is going to make you a lot faster than any aerodynamics can.
