    Road Ride around cheshire
    http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=186561
    Plenty suitable for fixed

From then on, every other Saturday a road ride unless the weather is really shite.

If you're female we have wimmin's rides every 1st and 3rd saturday- see: http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=125688944109599

  • Nice one nes, I'm in.

  • aw, ace not seen you in ages x x x

  • I would like to join the 30th ride. what kind of things should i bring?

  • I rode 40 fixed out around Tatton way with the Tri club earlier today. Very flat and fixed friendly lanes. Might join a future Sat ride on weekends where can't do my usual Sunday routine.

  • ok, now saturday rides every 2nd and 4th Saturday noon at unicorn unless it's mega pissing it down/snowing/hurricane etc.

    route suggestions:

  • thanks for organising the ride yesterday nes. was best hangover cure evar!

  • o ya

  • yeah it was fun, again in 2 weeks?

  • is there going to be a ride tomorrow?

  • well noone replied so didn't think so, am waiting in for my new winter road bike to be delivered....v v excited

  • I'm coming up to Manc this weekend and will have the road bike with me , was hoping to do a ride tomorrow— can anyone recommend me a good 40 mile with some hills?

Or an alternative is take the A6 to Disley, turn right at the lights after the station and up the hill, at the top turn right (SP Moorside Hotel), folllow this road up and down, until a T Juntion with B5470. Turn right, then climb up, turn right (SP Pott Shrigley), long descent to T Junction, turn right and follow this road all the way back towards stockport.

    35 miles IIRC.

  • ^ given the temps the descent to charlesworth on that route would be lethal at the mo imo - there was a lot of water running down the steepest bit a couple weeks back... Lovely any other time though.

    Been getting to know pott
shrigley too - nice ups and downs but again not sure i'd head there in sub zero.

You may get a lower risk (but flatter, and no doubt still icy in places) ride out towards Tatton Park via Hale etc

For info my club (tri) ride leaders are discussing sacking off road rides when icy and going mtb'ing instead. I think this is a good idea.

  • Thanks for the advice guys, I had a bloody freezing ride on Saturday, mostly flat out towards Tatton Park.. I actually had to abandon after about 2 hours as I'd not brought overshoes and I lost feeling in my feet after about 30 mins.

  • how bad is the weather in Manchester atm? I am coming up on the 28th, might stay a day extra with the road bike if anyone is riding 50 milesish out of manchester?

    I am unfit but keen.

  • I'd bring your polo bike....

  • It's -7 right now, and only well travelled roads are clear. The other roads are rideable, but the patches of brown slush-ice tend to make it a bit sketchy.

Mtb only for me at the mo, i've even been caught looking at the dreaded turbo...

  • I'd bring your polo bike....

    fair point

  • I'm in the ballot for Fred Whitton. Find out on 24th if I'm in or not.

Gonna do some of my medium (less lumpy, 3 to 4 hrs, moderate pace) rides fixed, not planned dates or owt yet, but if anyone fancies a trip out sometime lemme know either here or on a PM.

If anyone here has done it prev and has any tips, they'd be much appreciated. Ta.

  • I'm doing the Cheshire Cat sportive in March. Is anybody else doing it?

  • Not me, can only afford the one. Is on the list though.

One of my longer days out (probably not fixed) will be aride to Chesterfield and back via Hope (hillier) if anyone is up for it...

  • i've done something similar. cycled to parents (dronfield, between Chesterfield and Sheffield) for easter last year on my single speed (52:18), had to get off and push once or twice, but had only been riding ss for a few days then. reckon its doable fixed (except winnets pass, wouldn't like that either way fixed!).

  • Nice. I'm in process of racking up my main fixed bike for some light carrying jobs and might try it that way but on day 1 go on to Derby from Chesterfield (via Matlock) and then back to Manc day 2 via a winding route thru the peaks.

  • Whitton list is up and our works entry didn't get drawn in the ballot so not for us this year. Back to drawing board for springs plans. Might still do Chessy ride epic though...
