**Hey there,
Let me give you a little bit of background first, I've been into bikes for ever but I've never had a fixie before it's always been mountain bikes. I've bought a 1985 12 speed tourer with a reynolds 531 frame and fork, which I intend to do up to be a beater bike. The worst piece of damage is on the drive train with the outer front ring being chipped and having teeth missing.
The way I see it I have two choices to fix this bike up I can either replace the drive train and the wheels or I can bodge the drive train to work in a single speed or fixed gear way.
I'm leaning towards the first solution because I can then have a flipflop hub, I've pretty much decided on halo aero rage wheelset because they suit my budget, so firstly how do I work out which type of cog do I need? (I really can't find this on google or here maybe I'm stupid and I've missed something really basic)
secondly can anybody recomend a cheap front ring?
