  • Just got a new Track Frame and have never messed with Quill Stems too much.
How should I go about measuring the frame and myself to work out what length (reach) and angle Quill Stem I should get?

It's the only thing I'm a little confused about, so would like to get it right.
    Monsta

Ignore that, I've got it sorted

  • Do you have a spare one lying around?

it should be quite straightforward. if it feel stretched - shorter stem, if it feel too short (as if you're operating a jackhammer), longer stem.

  • nblakeman, are you in Kingston? Pretty sure i've seen that bike locked up around knights park a couple of times, and i think i possibly saw you and someone else (he had front aerospoke) outside of Kingston Bridge House tonight?

  • That looks like a pretty good job. Have you wet sanded or used a compound to cut back the clearcoat for a shiny shine? I've thought about a DIY respray in the past but wasn't sure if I could get a good finish, especially around the stays at the ST and BB.

    Wet sanded.
BB etc were all fairly easy to get covered, and have come up really well.

  • this frame has been in the cupboard under the stairs for over a year. along with a profile SS hub/hope xc pair of wheels, hone cranks, thomson post/stem, shimano disk brakes, pair of rockshox recons.

think i'll finally build it up for some winter riding as the bouncy bike is a pig to clean.

i used to have one of these - looads of fun

  • i had a prototype one with the hanger which i rode exclusively for about 2 years, then had a long travel hardtail so i could ride in the alps, this was replaced with a full-suss and the love/hate stripped down and forgotten about until i saw a wanted ad for one with the gear hanger so sold it on.
i shoot the frames for dialled so this new one didn't get given back :-)
looking forward to riding ss off-road again, not looking forward to the upper body ache, you certainly get a workout with ss.

  • Finally up and running.

Custom geometry Sabbath ti frame (first discussed some time back!), Sabbath ti post, dura ace cranks, goldtec rear on open pro, chris king headset, thomson stem, fsa bars, record levers.

Matching front hub on order, as are a set of honjo fenders.

Still fiddling with bar heights - will probably come down a bit. I'll cut the steerer once I'm happy.

  • That seatube looks really laidback, or is it just the angle of the pic?

  • Looks like road geo.

  • 72.5 degree seat-tube, 73 degree head-tube. It is a road geometry, rather than track geometry. It's my daily commuter which I will also take out for longer rides at the weekend. I wanted it to be above all supremely comfortable.

  • That's the first Sabbath I've seen that I like. Good job.

  • It's the first Sabbath they've done like that ;-)

  • True. Plus you seem to have stopped them from slapping their awful branding all over it.

Nice one. It's a fixed/SS road bike, isn't it? Makes sense to have the correct geometry.

  • the branding is etched in - very discrete, and I really like it.

  • That's a nice touch. Normally they slap god awful red stickers on every possible surface.

  • I'll post some proper pics once I have the front wheel built and fenders fitted. If you look carefully, you'll see i've also got them to put holes for the rear fender stay inside the seatstay.

  • I fitted full mudguards today and now my bike looks like an OTP commuter thing. I dislike winter.

  • willo, that's a really nice bike, can't wait to see it completed.

  • nearly there

sorry for the huge phone photo

  • than you Ed - will be a few days before the fenders arrive, and then i've got to find the time to drill them and fit them. Easier said than done with three young kids buzzing around...

  • willo, will you get hondo's through the front fork?

  • Pretty certain that they will fit - the bike and forks are designed to take a full length guard. Had to resort to the long reach Shimano calipers as my dura ace didn't fit. I'll be cheesed off if they don't.

Edit - should have said, i'm getting the narrow 35mm ones.

  • that is very pretty. is it freewheel or fixed? in any case, i like it very much
