Brake cables go behind the bars. Not convinced by Zonda's with Victory if you were going for a true period correct build, but they look fine, apart from the QR skewers; surely they are not OE for those wheels?
-
• #36028
I'd get some proper campagnolo quickreleases though, and mount them the correct way.. :)
Those quickreleases look like those I used to have on my semi-horizontal drops Fondreist, and the rear wheel was always touching the left stay after sprinting up hill... Cheap shit..

yep they've been ordered but can be delivered straight to oxford. my handy toolbox couldn't so they are the last addition.
Concerning the cables, i know the norm is to have them on the inside but personally i prefer them on the outside cause they dont get in the way as much. Unless you have a handlebar bag i cant think of why this should be so dogmatic. I may have missed something though.

Just look at the line into the front calliper - looks horrible.

New stem and bar, (Nitto Randonneur), damn comfortable!
Gotta change the brakes though, any good one I should go for? (don't care if it's campag or shimano as long it can stop me quickly).

ed what bag is that. i was thinking of going for a gilles berthoud but size wise this looks more suitable.

Although those Monoplanar ones would work better with a modern pad in them - pad compound improvements over the last decade account for as much of the improvement in brakes as the move to dual pivots.

modern brake shifter + monplanar brake = doesn't work that well, feel quite hard to pull (and brake cable has been changed).
phil - ostrich bag, they're a lots cheaper than the berthoud one (by nearly half price) and appear to function better, especially with the hook making it easier to open while riding as oppose to undoing the strap, the downside is that they're harder to get.
No way I'm paying £140 for this;

Well, dual pivots have more mechanical advantage, and the Veloce ones are adequate and cheap, so go for them. You can sell your Chorus Monoplanars for more than you'll pay for new Veloce callipers too.

Veloce it is then, ta.

Pleasure to be of assistance; now sell me your Monoplanars ;-)
-
• #36041
I'd have though you don't like the monoplanars, only thing nice about them is how they look.
-
• #36042
But they would make a nice aesthetic upgrade to the Veloce Monoplanars on my lo-pro, and I find they work at least as well as any single pivot brake, certainly well enough for a bike which will already perform stoppies without much provocation due to the very forward weight distribution.

Will send you a pm when I got them replaced.

Oh it is, I think it's something like £200+ for that, the one I posted were their cheapest one.
it's an US site, but should give you an idea of how much they are;
-
• #36046
for the basic version of that, essentially same design but with elastic straps rather than leather its 225-240USD depending on whether you want the small or medium. Add customs and shipping and you are looking at 200GBP. a bit steep need to find me a second hand bargain unlikely as it may be. thing is i think the ostrich is a bit to wide and not the right colour. i am a stuck with mercian baby blue.

How do you find the brake hood angle issue on the randonneur bar?
I was setting up an old Marin MTB as a winter bike this weekend and I got a new randonneur bar for it. Didn't get to test drive yet, but got wondering about the hood angle when I installed the the Tektro v-brake drop levers.
You know what I'm talking about? The sideways leaning angle of the hood that is different between randonneur vs non-randonneur bar.

on my red pista...
...my canelli track bike...
...and my felino track bikewhy is it that on each of your "track" and "pista" bikes there are obvious drillings and/or other devices for mounting of brakes?
