been thinking about how to make throw ins/shuffles fairer, given that so many people are now coming down on a thursday, so we all get a decent number of games. have come up with the following, which is not exactly original, just a couple of tweeks on the existing process:
when enough people for a game are there, do a grand shuffle for as many games as possible
any people not shuffled, are guaranteed into the first game of the next grand shuffle, and the rest of the mallets are shuffled in after that
if someone arrives after a grand shuffle, they're not allowed to put their mallet in until the next grand shuffle and are not automatically guaranteed a game out of their first shuffle. this will encourage people to turn up at the start of the session.
if we do the above, i reckon everyone who comes at the start of the session will get roughly the same amount of play and no-one will be out of play for more that 2 games.
