Holding pressure fine even with me sitting on it and rolling back and forth. We'll see how they go over some bumps I guess.
Also, fuck off. Have you decided on tires yet?

new or old mountain king?
the old ones are shite, the new ones are meant to be ace, i'm trying to 'source' one for my mtb.
new ones are more like a rubber queen. look like this:

and that was with 2+ inch tyres squidging under neath you? Like I said, your a princess (in the princess and the pea way).
How much can a steel tube triangle actually move? What was the difference you noticed?
Cant find it now but I read a great thread on MTBR (i think), where this guy set up a sir niner (853 steel) and a One niner (easton scandium) the same, and rode identical routes on them.
Basically the scandium frame felt faster, and was a more precise weapon (it is also lighter though). But the 853 was slightly more forgiving and smoother. I think he also said that difference was very small.
My thinking is that the different tubesets react differently, to the forces from throwing your body weight around on twisty trails. I used to ride a BMX around the woods when I was a nipper, and tend to steer as much with my body weight as with my bars (still a big kid on a bigger BMX ;) )

I can understand why a stiffer frame feels faster as lateral flex is there to be seen on a flexy frame and a stiff frame certainly feels faster when climbing (although in practice it may bot be).
What I can't get my head around (and neither can Mike Burrows!) is how a human can feel any vertical movement in a frame (especially given the MUCH more movement occurring in tyres, bars, seat etc,.)
Maybe my nerves/senses have just been beaten to death from far too many years of rigid off roading

Right folks, I was chatting to Tom k&e at Souths about this and thought i'd share it. How about a bunch of us sign up for some races next year? I'm doing a few 24's and figured you guys might be interested. You can do all of them solo, and most in pairs or in teams of 4/5.
It'd be good to have a big camp of us so that it's easier in terms of support and of course lots more fun.

The idea scares and intrigues me.

Are you racing solo or as part of a team? You did a 24 this year right?

I want to keep doing solo, Eyebrows mentioned doing a paired one with him though so i'd be willing to give it a go.
Yeah I did the Twentyfour12 at Newnham Park this year, absolutely epic.
One thing I will say to all you off-road novices, this will be the greatest training session you'll ever get. I was a complete novice, never did any serious off-road, never raced in anyway shape or form. After 2 hours I was lapping about 5-10 minutes off the top guys on a fully rigid SS, ended up getting the 21st fastest lap time out of 58 solo riders. My endurance could definitely do with some work though.
If you're new to it, think of it as a 24hr training session, I got to ride with some of the best MTBers in the country including an ex-Olympic champion for 24 hours for £40. Not a bad deal.

I'd be up for doing one as half of a pair
Possibly even some full 24 hours as cross trainin for Paris Brest Paris.

I would be quite up for a 24hr or 12hr solo sometime next year. Done a 10hr in a trio and although fun I found it quite annoying to have to stop and then start again, would of prefered to keep going or do my time at once rather than do lap about.
Is there any close to London? I do most of my MTBing in Scotland so don't know too much whats going on down here.

Holden ute, tram tracks...sniff...making me a bit homesick.
Oh, and the bike looks like a blast. Would love to have a go on one.

think i'm gonna do mountain mayhem and twentyfour12 next year - solo too, not interested in getting loads of laps just fun to do a lap when you want and not have to wait around for team members to get back, will get in touch closer to the time

Fizik tundra installed and much more comfortable.
No tubes wheels completed and installed, from time to work it appears to be running faster
Woohoo

Overwhelming support for a 36er being my next build then? There will probably be plenty of parts available by the time I can afford my next one in any case.

OK chaps I am after a mountain bike to complete my stable. At a shade under 6'4" every shop I have been into has suggested I get a 29er of various brands- I do quite fancy the Inbred 29er race with gears any opinions? I also think a Charge Duster Mid might be worthwhile to look at esp as 2010 models are reduced at CRC and there is a Genesis Altitude at a decent price at Evans.
Please help.

try a few out, see what fits and appeals the most
so they are now holding pressure?
i wonder if they hold air better than a standard inner tube?
how fucking long does it take you to build a bike?
