The embers gillet arrived today
To be honest the material is fairly similar to my rapha sportswool items such as the winter jersey. I had expected it to be two distinct layers, a merino one and a polyester outer layer. In fact it appears that the polyester is a coating on the outside of the merino layer. So possibly a sportswool analogue would be a reasonable description.
I have been struggling to manage temperature on my commutes at the moment, full sleeves have left me a little too warm, so hoping the gillet will be the perfect between season layer.
I can also see myself wearing it under a softshell or the greenspot jacket if things get very cold this winter.
On initial inspection it appears to be well made and fit is good. It does not have elastic adjusters at the hem but does have a non slip rubber strip instead.
I also got a couple of pairs of socks at the same time, they are made by the NZ sock company, and appear to be quite similar to some smartwool socks I have. They are slightly more technical than the Rapha ones with higher degree of construction and structure.
