this is totally opposite to my experience. I came to london in 2008 from another country not knowing anyone in this city. Because I rode bikes and expecially fixed wheel bikes, I came across this forum somehow. For the first few months I just learned a lot from just lurking on here before I joined. I learned about things to do in london, where to get bike parts for old bikes, bike friendly routes around town, where not to lock your bike and many other useful things. eventually I joined as I felt I could contribute. Slowly I met a few people from buying used parts and going on group rides. As far as my experience it has been a positive place full of useful information. If I say something dumb and I get called out for it I am a big boy and can handle it.

I'm not hanging out with consumers, i'm hanging out with and speaking to fixed gear cyclists from around the country that have ALL expressed the same opinion, not a single person has said anything other than this is an unfriendly place. I'm not confusing anything with anything else, I worked in community development for years, I know exactly how minorities (not ethnic!) negatively affect the majority.
