orange customers should use the Contacts Backup app from the market. i used it before updating my os and its quickly and efficiently saved all my contacts, inc facebook, email, everything. neato.

If you are android, then all of your contacts are synced to the cloud, under contacts in gmail.

Why you need backup?

This is actually a feature I love. I can enter / edit / merge contacts in my web browser and the results are instantly available on my phone. Been waiting years for that to work so smoothly.
