Motorcycle and Scooter appreciation

yamaha virago 535 has self cancelling, after about 15 secs. Thing is, are you more likely to fail for forgetting to turn them off after turning, or them cancelling themselves while you're waiting to turn and you turning without a signal?

Always thought it was something in the speedo (distance) as you can sit at lights for longer than that,
