The Joy of Essex- Saturday 16th of October

  • Count me out of the lunch number calculation. I have to get back early so I'll split before lunch.

  • Hey Ladies, so there's a group ride on this Saturday, out through Essex.

    http://www.lfgss.com/thread51510.html

sounds like it will be good and a good intro to longer rides. I am planning on going (as long as it's not pissing down) and was wondering if anyone wants to join me! Admittedly it does seem like a sausage-fest at the moment. That said, I went on the group ride to brighton this past weekend which was about 34 guys and 4 girls, and it was still great!

  • Ha, I don't think we've had a separate thread in here calling for ladies' ride participation before. It could catch on. ;)

    However, beware of

  • How come you know? ;)

er… I've heard other people talking about the famous pubs with beer

  • bah, guess ill have to get the gears on then. I'm not an idiot though.

    Cough.

Will be escorting, chasing, running away from shoosh so no idea food wise.

  • Thank fuck someone pulled me up on that. I'm definitely an idiot. Looks like the geared bike will be all ready by the weekend, so going to have to figure out another way of skidding.
I couldn't do it on the fixie skidder anyway, cos my rear tyre is going to explode very soon.

  • Got family visiting this weekend now, so I'm out.

  • If this is the same as last year's Leaving East London ride I am keen to partake, assuming I am not too hung over that day

  • Questions questions:

Where in Walthalmstow is the ride starting? I'm in south london so it'll take a while to get up there. Any idea how long it'll take from Elephant & castle?

What is the elevation profile of the ride like? I did london to brighton last weekend geared but the hills nearly killed me.

How many kms expected? (my decision to go geared or fixed depends on this!)

    thanks

  • Someone mentioned Whipps X roundabout.

Upper Leytonstone, at the end of Lea Bridge Rd / Wood St. - towards Woodford.

Leave an hour earlier. If anybody's earlier, give me a call, as I live 5mins from Whipps Cross.

0 seven five four five nine sex 8 nought free too (Kris)

  • I'm on this. Havern't been on a forum ride in probably over a year! I'll be riding from south east and will be riding to Greenwich, then through the foot tunnel.

You're welcome to join me if you like.

It'll probably take just over an hour what with walking the tunnel and stopping for lights.

  • It leaves from the Whipps X roundabout, E10 6EA.

Meet up @ 9.00 am and leave @ 9.15 ish

More details will be posted tomorrow

Yes, its the same route as last year..

  • Questions questions:

We leave from the Whipps X roundabaout, south side . The distance is about 40 miles, the elevation is gentle; there are no escarpments.

If I recover from my man flu I will be leaving from the elephant and castle area too. I think its around 9 miles to get to the meeting point.

  • Thanks for the invite ms.chris as I'm one of those rarely seen and still a bike-wimp commuter forum member. Can't join on this occasion as I might be attempting to ride the 'hills' of SE London on the Sunday and need to lots of rest beforehand - lol.

  • It looks like over 35 of you are now coming on this ride. To put this in context, there were nine of us last year.

I want this to be safe ride , but I need you help to make it so . Can those of you who know the route or have acted as a marshall or guide on other rides please PM me so I can discuss your helping me to run this ride.

Its likely that given the number of participants the ride will break up into groups , so I ll plan it so we meet up at various points along the way, ie the Tea Hut at High Beach, North Weald , Matching Green , pub stops etc.

More details will be posted tonight....

  • And there will need to be a backstop.

I'd love to come on this but can't. :(

  • **ED-
**I'm happy to backstop/act as sweeper bike with all the tools and ting to deal with mechanical doom. Could probably lead the slow group but I have a memory like a sieve and tend to miss vital turnings.
However, if anyone whos whinging about not having a bike thats working thats brave enough to rear admiral it up on the tandem(geared one, not the brakless lotrackdem) with me and take on navigation duties then pm me(no loonies/unfit people please).
