Right all gears are off, left the front 2 chain rings on now as well as the back cassette until i've chosen the right gear (and haven't got the tool to remove front, so will leave that to the bike shop). Shortened the chain and went for the test ride, but the chain is pulling the wheel along the dropout. they're horizontal, but forward facing. Read the sheldonbrown artical on chain tension etc, but not making as much sense as I'd hoped. Anything in laymen's terms would be handy!
