  • bought myself a fuji track pro 2009 and now i'm looking for some parts.

i thought a fsa carbon track crank (new model) would be stiff and great, but not a bargain. any experiences here? any alternatives (i need a black one)? sugino 75? miche advanced?

the second thing i'm not sure is the drop bar. cinelli or deda? or is there a better one?

it's my first real track bike since 18 years, so i'm a bit out :)

    thx!!!

  • Cranks in Black you'll be limited to Sugino 75, Miche Advanced or Truvativ Omnium. Can't think of any others that are available in Black. If you are building for the track make sure you get 144BCD cranks as you'll have more chance of finding a chainring at a track meeting if you need to change your gear but don't have the needed chainring.

As for bars. That all depends on your preference. Many sprinters use sprint style bars but most endurance riders don't like them as they are to deep in the drop to be comfortable in longer events. Most endurance riders are using anatomic road bars (just look at a World Cup or Revolution Series event).

Sprint bars you have a few options:
Deda make and alloy and steel version. Pretty deep drop.
The Cinelli's are a similar shape in alloy as are the 3TT.
Then you have the Nitto bars but you'll been a stem to match or use the shims. Many use the Nitto bars and they have a few shapes to chose from in steel and alloy.
If you like a sprint bar but don't want a deep drop then check out the PRO bars. They do a carbon and an alloy version that is not as deep as the Deda's and the rest. Nice as stiff. I have a pair and I'm very happy with them.
Easton also make really nice carbon track bars.

Carbon bars are overkill unless you are a pro. They are not gonna make you any faster (the amount or power lost though the flexing of the bars is so little) and they'll cost you a fortune to replace when you crash... but if you got money to blow go ahead.

    :-)

  • at first, thanks. the first response after 114 readers...

a friend of mine has the truvativ, but i don't like them.
144bcd is standard for me, so i'm thinking of getting the miche or the fsa carbon (new model).

for the bars it seems that i have to try different types/models. i'll start with a cinelli or deda, meanwhile i search for the pro-lite bars

  • there is a black c-record track crank but i guess that is going to be a little hard to find :)

  • Do you have wheels? Where are you planning to ride?

Miche are fine cranks, for me 75s are better.

  • wheel question is still pending. i've missed an auction for a corima fourspoke front wheel and now i don't know exactly what i should buy. i won't spend more than 400€ for the wheels.

and a black c-record is really hard to find and i'm sure it will be also to expensive for me

  • Wow - you're really going for it after 18years! Sugino's are awesome, and just feel solid, but IMO so do Miche.
    Where are you riding?

  • As child I used to be member of a professional cycling club. I hated to ride 100km and more for the possibility of a sprint at the end which took my coach to the decision to move me and my legs into the track team. Both, the fall of the berlin wall, which completely changed the structures of the political and social system in the former GDR, and the puberty made me quit my cycling career.

    Augsburg/Germany (indoor)
    Niederpöring/Germany (outdoor)

  • +1. I've got black 75s, they are the business IMO.

Sugino's are awesome, and just feel solid

  • are the black ones stiffer then ?

  • Yes. And faster. And more stealthy. What's not to like?

  • Augsburg/Germany (indoor)
    Niederpöring/Germany (outdoor)

    Indoor 250M 45degree wood
    outdoor 333M 27 degree concrete

You are spoilt! maybe 2 wheelsets or at least some white vinegar to clean your tyres when you ride indoors.

  • for the outdoor track i can use one of my clincher sets, just for the indoor i'll buy a clincher set

  • has anyone tried the tufo tubulars for clincher wheels???

  • I wouldn't bother with those.

Use conti supersonics, veloflex records or vittoria diamante pro lite for clinchers.

  • clinchers for wooden tracks?

  • If those are your only rims, then yes what else?

I wouldn't put Tufos on wood

  • Veloflex pave. (Which are now, or soon will be called Master 22)

As RPM said, if you only have one set of wheels, make them clinchers and buy decent tyres.

  • i'll buy a set of tubular wheels, a friend of mine is willing to sell his unused planet-x track wheel set

  • has anyone a fsa carbon track crank (new model) for sale???

  • nor me

  • Has anyone got a cheap rear disc in clincher that's fixed or fixed compatible?

  • hehe
