I won't delete the thread as some have asked. I think the replies speak volumes about people's view of this.
Advice to your mate:
Make an original product, have his own website, show images of the actual product... then think about selling.
As it stands right now, your mates product is vaporware and as we don't know that it will differ it's hard to think he hasn't just stole the design.
