4 x punctures, on gatorskins, on one ride!

one of my maxxis refuse tore across it's width after about 5 miles of use. Apart from that they were good tyres. Didn't hold up to skidding for too long, but make a proper good noise when you do skid. The sidewalls are really thin though, that's the only place I had a puncture. They have pretty good grip in the wet too.
Marathon plus have been good to me, last fucking ages even with skidding and amazing puncture protection. I've ridden through horrible amounts of glass and crap on them and never had a puncture. They have fairly high rolling resistance but don't feel like you loose any grip at all in the wet.
I'm riding gatorskins at the moment and they seem really good. Hold up quite well to skidding, not like the refuse which chunks fell out of. They skid better than the refuse and marathon plus's as well. I've not had a puncture on one yet, and again I've ridden through quite a lot of broken glass, even some nails. However as Xander mentioned, they have horrible grip in the wet, I feel like I'm going to fall over leaning just a tiny bit.

Only had 2 punctures in 4yrs of gatorskins. One was me rushing and pinched the tube putting the tyre on. Another was a pinch from a rock.
Just about to kill my front one - can no longer see the tread and is lovely and square.

I've been using gatorskins for about the last 4 months & havn't had any problems yet, use them every day on average London roads. So I guess this theory of good+bad batches is probably right.

Hippy loves them, so they must be good......

i didnt have any punctures when using them, but they were just too bad in the wet for me to keep using them.

Unappropriate username!
I have never ever had an unexpected puncture on road bike tyres. I ride through industrial areas with steel shards and bits of glass daily.
The only times I have had punctures is when my tyres have been worn down to the woven casing, when I have been totally expecting it.
I have run bottom or range conti's & vittorias (like £8 tyres) right to the end of their lives. Even rode a pair of £3 camels with no punctures.
I ride with one gatorskin currently, and it seems like a very tough grippy tyre.

I commute every day on them, and regularly ride through broken glass as someone keeps smashing bottles into the exact same bit of the cycle lane regularly.
You know, you don't have to use the cycle lane.

I have used gators for years and had very few punctures I suspect its your road that is the problem.

Had Maxxis Refuse front and rear for ages, then could not get hold of them (cannot remember why) and ended up with a Conti Four Seasons on the front and a Gator folder on the back.
No p_nct_r_s so far this year, on either the Maxxis or the Conti's.
That's me cursed for tomorrow!
The Maxxis are lovely to skid, make a nice zippy noise- but when they start to go they throw off big strips of tread in a hurry. That said the canvas does not seem to p_nctr either, I just worried that it would.

Yeah having your tyres in contact with the road is asking for trouble. Levitation ftw

Have you considered cycle training?

If you like Balki, I could teach you.

I personally think they are shit. At one point I was running armadillos (700x28) with a bit of an old tire cut up into a thin strip lining the inside. Never punctured, until I ran a hole though.

Teach me how to get my inevitable punctures?

It was tastefully done, Will... artistic.
I use them daily- I only use them on the front, never had a puncture in 4+ years. I00psi
