will, if people meet up on rides, at polo, in a bike shop we all recommend, in the street because they're wearing the forum cap, all well and good, its the interaction I'm looking for, that doesn't consist of the easily mistaken words on a screen. Beers are easy because they are a regular event in most parts of town, that people can get to.
I won't badger people to go to beers, give them the opportunity, tell them where they are and let them do what they will. But its easier to change people's perceptions of you in person, than tap, tap tapping away at the keyboards.
Forum is better for the personal connections we have made, wherever we have made them, however we have made them.
