• LOL well i just want a comfy well made one, cheapest isnt always best ed, having one which lasts is the most important. .

  • if you're going to carry a lots of heavy stuff, it will be uncomfortable, if you're not (just shirt and ties, some book and apple for your pedophile), then a cheap bag would be comfortable.

  • holy shit!

    Apple for teacher maybe?

  • I have the North Face Borealis and Surge ruck sacks pretty good and sweater at 30% off Osprey are worth looking at as well.

I think you had your North Face bag next to my North Face bag at Wests last night. I opened yours by mistake! Sorry....

  • trust me my bag weighs a fucking ton. . . heavier than any bag i take on a day trip or weekend. . . probably at least 20 odd kg

fucking hell, where did this assumption come from. im a teacher and i sure as fuck do not abuse kids.

  • @upnorthcrhis - its ok i go to a private school, plenty of paedos you have to watch out for! xD

  • were you abused as a child, edsquabble?

    it would explain the drivel.

  • mmmm exactly my thoughts. . .

  • Just for anyone in london there's an awesome bag shop on Charing cross road, just past Centre point, the first one on the left hand side as you're heading towards shaftbury ave.

    Loads of cheap decent makes.

Also it has the best headtorch ever - black and same as the forces use and it kicks pezl's arse.

    Anyway... carry on...

UpNorthChris - +1 many of my closest friends are peophiles and only a few of them are teachers.

find a way to reduced the load, then look for a bag.

i.e. cycling shoes that look like school shoes is a start.

  • I can understand his problem. I've never had to carry as much shit backwards and forward each day shit as when I was at school.

shoes stay at school, trainers stay at the rowing club, and no i like carrying shit around, im looking for a high capacity bag for the commute so i can bung it all in there as i need it at home and at school which is why im asking for help to find a bag as its a fucking nightmare but i think i have it sorted now, 30 - 35l should cover it all. . .

  • Get an ortlieb.

  • dont have £100

  • alpkit gear has always treated me well, really good value too.

  • 56005
    35LT BERGHAUS MUNRO
    £55.00
good enough for our lads in the forces, good enough for you !
    check out silvermans, mile end

  • I've got a dakine dispatch, which is pretty decent. they are £65 in cyclesurgery, but if you shop around you might be able to get it cheaper. I got mine for £30 from facewest, but I think i got their last one.

For £30 i think it is a really good deal, but i don't think i'd be quite as happy with it if i'd splashed £65 on it. worth having a look at though if you can.

  • Instead of starting a new thread, I thought I'd lazarus this one. There is the comprehensive messenger bags list from GA2G, but I couldn't find the equivalent for backpack / rucksack / twin strap / whatever you want to call them bags.

I have a large Project Tortoise bag that I've had for about three or four years now and it is great. Lately though, I've been suffering a bit from discomfort and a feeling of it not quite being right. I'm thinking of switching to a decent cycle specific rucksack after trialling an old rucksack (Alpkit) as a run around alternative. The load balance seems fine, but it lacks some of the neat features of a messenger bag / cycle specific bag - specifically, a good pocket layout, durable waterproof materials, neat touches like compression straps, light loops, key clip etc etc

So, market research: I like the look of the Bailey works citizen, and the Mission Workshop Rambler / Vandal seen to be getting really good press as setting the standard at the minute. I know a lot of people like the ortlieb bags for simplicity.

    Requests:

    1. Do you own a really good rucksack that you would reccommend? If so, what is it and why do you like it so much?
    2. Paging GA2G - would you consider turning your talents to a list that this could be merged to? It might be a useful alternative resource to the single strap list.
    3. If I have effected a UTFS fail, feel free to point out this fact.
  • I have a MW rambler, no complaints so far (only had it for a week though). It doesn't use truck tarp in its construction so I think it will be less waterproof than bags which do use it. I've also noticed it being slightly warmer than my old messenger bag (of equal size) was.

I'd recommend it, very pleased with mine at the moment.

Also try looking at Belk Bags, they make backpacks too.

  • Good point, I like the Belk bags and had omitted to mention them above. I think the tech backpack is a nice looking bag.

  • Go to TK Maxx and get one cheap as chips - they have a lot of good stuff in there-you'll know it when you see it.

I think you might have missed the point a bit bigtwin. I said above that I was looking for something bike specific and pointed out some features that I'd like. I'm not sure TK will have a cheap Bagaboo or belk or Bailey Works. What they will have is cheap rucksacks of generic designs or intended for walking - I have a Berghaus for walking and an Alpkit for lightweight stuff so that isn't really what I'm after.
