• I do like a good thread about training. I'm always intrigued by opinions and experiences. Here's one or two of mine.
OPINION - Maybe what works for one person should be taken as 'guidance'. If you have never lifted weights before, I certainly wouldn't recommend just going into a gym and 'just' working on squats and deadlifts. They take a while to nail and nerologically, it will deplete you - and recovery can be lengthy. Adaptation to this kind of training can leave you struggling to transfer to the bike. Total body training to start with - to prep the energy systems - would be ideal, with the hope to isolate later. (I've only written this as a precaution to total beginners looking for a resistance based programme, and i am not criticising anyone!!)
EXPERIENCE - This summer, my mileage has been quite high, and i have dropped a shitload of weight. I am no stranger to the gym, but i am going to have to start from scratch again this winter. I've lost a heap of strength, and fatigue very quickly in the gym, which is so damn frustrating. I have all these weights in my head that i was lifting - and started back in the gym on monday trying to equal it. In my line of work - i should know better, but alas, I am weak.
I was very interested in that abstract about core exercises. Interesting.
