I'm not going to read the to and fro of Edwardes slagging-off and bigging-up since last visiting this thread, all I can say is, since working in a bikeshop for a month or so, I can fully understand why Edwardes may seem off to some people, on some occasions. But here's the thing guys; they're real people. When working at a corporate retail shop, I can't be myself, dare I say it, I even have to lie to the customer because it simply isn't worth it to us, from a monetary point of view, to help them out.
I can never see Edwardes doing this, in fact, I've always got brutally honest advice from them and respect them for it. I don't rank Edwardes as up-there as BrixtonCycles in terms of LBS hero's, but they do a good job and are nice to me... probably because I don't expect a faux smile and a "how are you today sir?" even though the guy might've had an awful day and couldn't give a fuck about anything other than sitting down and putting his feet up with a brew.
