  • PayPal Gift payment offers no protection at all. Nor are there any PayPal charges either to Buyer or Seller, associated with such transactions. This service is effectively same as a Bank Transfer, for those who have/use bank accounts. In recent years new banking laws have come into effect which promotes almost instant (same-day) transfers through automated banking systems. Prior to this, Bank Transfers would take 3-5 working days to clear.

A standard, basic PayPal payment attracts a charge of 3.4% + 20p paid for by the Seller, ie. the one receiving the payment. What this covers, in terms of protection to buyer, is non-delivery of goods, nothing more.

But the more pressing question has to do with dealing with PayPal in the first place after you have dealt with a buyer or seller. You have to be wary.

Corporate Scams make scammers look like child's play.
