...The X10 is still the phone I want, more than any other. I'm thinking its a 50/50 shout, as to if SE do implement the Froyo upgrade on the X10.
On the one hand, they need to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S (for spec), and Dell Streak (size); and on the other hand, they don't want to update their X10 so much, that their 2011 phones will sit on the shelves, unsold. Its a tricky one.
In fact, when thinking about it, it makes sense for SE not to update the X10 so much, or no-one would buy the......follow-up?
...
Loads of rumours on the internet now, regarding Sony Ericsson's next big Android phone. It looks like it could be called the Xperia X12. It should have a cpu rated at 1.2-1.5Ghz, and run Froyo to begin with, and update to Gingerbread. If its a much modified X10, they will be able to keep some manufacturing costs down. At the moment, the X10 is still one of the most expensive phones, but the OS is dated. Sony Ericcson do need something special to compete with the HTC Desire HD, and upcoming Motorola Droid X (if released in Europe, and if that too is updated to Froyo), and the Samsung Galaxy S (ver.2, which is inevitable).
So apart from the excuses about Time/MediaScape being "just as good as" Eclair+Froyo, we can see why SE haven't truly updated their phones.
They know that a (by then, cheaper) Froyo flavoured X10, would harm sales of their future phones.
