they don't have ' the right.' not sure where you got that from. Just saying it's interesting that italian manufacturers are not nearly as hidebound and blinkered as italian bike aficionados can sometimes be.
Leaving aside the loaded adjectives, how is that "interesting"? They sell frames - why would they care what anyone hangs off it? After all, 90%+ of the people that ever set eyes them couldn't actually tell the difference between a Campy and a Shimano deraileur. Or they sell complete bikes, they'll do for what maxes profit. Or they supply frames to someone who fits them out and they have no say anyway. Pro riding is a sponsorship game, and thus in another ball park.
None of which has anything to do with, or diminishes the worth of the aesthetic judgment of, the bicycle purchasing public who care enough to have an opinion. For my part, I'm just grateful that people can muster the effort to give a damn, or the world of cycling - frames, components, paints, clothing and all the rest of it, would be all the duller.
Oh, and to answer your actual question, I got it from your statement: "So, if the manufacturers don't care, then no one else should either.". Key word" "should". So far as I am concerned, people have the right to care if they want to, regardless of the manufacturers.
