  • The handicaps won't change much apart from giving an extra benefit to those with the bigger head starts due to the nature of over taking on an indoor track.

Graham is it time to change the format of the sprints? Having a master and novices sprint instead of the white hope? As most of the international sprinters are the odp these days who were really who e white hope was aimed at in the past

  • ...as it's supposed to be an international invitation meeting the local HH bods who were kindly allowed to join in before will likely not feature.

I guess the local Manc bods will be kindly allowed to join in instead! It's important that the event retains an element of 'amateur vs pro' otherwise it will lose its USP and become just another indoor track event.

  • Its a real shame i think....HH was a a classic event and always a great spectacle. It will change drastically as it wont have the 'London' feel and it wioll ceratinly attract a completely different demograph of riders.
That said the rain has certainly played a major part in recent years so at least you will be 100% sure of riding..

    Oh well...

And not being able to line riders up side by side on higher H/caps because they'll be mid banking?

  • And not being able to line riders up side by side on higher H/caps because they'll be mid banking?

True....but get a handicap mid straight and the 'run off' will be sweet...

  • Ok. Going inside will create challenges, but we want to keep as much of the Good Friday spirit as we can. So, we won't be able to have 70-80 up fields which means that we may have to have heats in the morning for some of the endurance events. The sprints will still have the 200m qualifying round and all the riders will be mingling in the track centre together, with helpers. Yes, there may be some riders local to Manchester entering who wouldn't normally but we hope that some of the riders local to HH will ride as well. With this in mind we are planning to run a coach (or two) from HH on Thursday evening for riders and spectators, returning on either Friday night or Saturday morning. The only difference is that instead of riders travelling down the motorway, as in the past, riders will be travelling up. It won't be forever though ;-)

  • It won't be forever though ;-)

Climate change = future hot sunny Easters in South London!

  • But will there be a jumble? rubs hands

  • I'm not abandoning HH altogether! Next year there will be a DernyFest and Womens Omnium Meeting on May 28 and on August 20 I'm staging the National Derny Championships together with a round of the National Sprinters League. Also The BPA are looking to hold their Motor Paced Championships (with the big Triumph motorbikes) on a date to be arranged. There is a good possibility that we will have some continental riders at some or all of these meetings plus a bar and music.

If there was would you go?

  • I'd probably go anyway, there are some great record shops in Manchester... Day out, innit?

Believe it or not, I have come home from HH on GF sunburnt on more than one occassion, but not for a couple of years or more.

Rubbish beer though. I might have to take up some London Pride, or Darkstar Hophead.

  • are you really a Dernymeister,
like do you have the ticket??
    I covet a Derny ticket

Yes I am a Dernymeister having won the National championships with both a male and female rider. I have also paced on the continent using Dernys and big motors. I also have the credentials to assess prospective pacers for a pacing licence. As my friend in Germany said when I told him that I had paced a rider to the Championship win "You are a Dernymeister".

  • You still need to put on a few more pounds to be THE Dernymeister:

  • ooof! not arf.
