@rocksteady, the Camel is a good suggestion IMO. I haven't been there for ages but if I remember correctly they do pies at reasonable prices. This would obviously need confirmation via a pint and pie tasting reconaissance mission. The Flowers is just down the road and they do pizzas if i remember rightly which could also be worth a look, although bike locking could be an issue.
Other posts above mention the Morgan Arms, I have been there and it's an over priced gastro affair with an affluent clientele, due to the surrounding mansion houses and the square nearby. Personally I don't think it's what we are looking for but others may dissagree.
Another suggestion perhaps after the Camel is the Shakespeare. It is somewhat controversial as it's in an N postcode, but only just. It does real ale, has railings for bikes, outside seating and does no food whatsoever so you can get a pizza next door and eat it in the pub.
