  • I'm always a little mystified by the whole transition (T1) process. It seems like a few seconds spent putting your shoes on properly before getting on the bike would pay dividends later, even at the sprint distance.

Aye, My routine involves sitting down on the floor (dizziness from the swim exit befuddles my head) putting my shoes on quickly and running to the bike mount zone in my cleats taking care not to slip. That said a couple of seconds either way doesn't make that much difference over a 10 hour race!

Every second does count for the elites, but what I don't get is that in ITU events you are allowed to draft, so surely a couple of seconds lost in T1 doesn't make much of a difference so long as you get yourself into the lead group on the bike.
