I'm also on the hunt for a new bike for my girlfriend. I originally got her a Pashley Poppy (as discussed earlier on) however as also mentioned she finds it too heavy and cumbersome for daily usage and long distances.
If anyone can recommend some complete bikes which are still step-through but are 'sportier' (weigh less, have a larger gear range etc) and retain a semblance of good looks I would be in your debt. The Kona Africa looks nice but is it a heavy bugger?
