  • I overslept and missed the 11.30 track induction at HH on Saturday morning, so I did sod all Saturday, went out to Box Hill from home (Islington) yesterday - did about 75 miles all together, picking up a friend in Fulham who didn't want to go as far as me.

Had planned to go from Fulham to Kingston via Richmond Park, but there was a duathlon going on, so you could only ride on the roads if you were part of the race. Didn't fancy that so we did the offroad path down to Kingston, the hilly, sandy bit was fun on 23mm tyres. Quite hilarious overtaking MTBers (well, nodder MTBers anyway) on a tarck bike, got quite a few funny looks!

It was great coming back though as the roads were still closed, but by then open to cyclists, so got to do a loop of Richmond Park traffic free while the sun was setting, great stuff.

Beautiful day yesterday and glad I got off my arse and did some riding!

Have to say, found Box Hill surprisingly easy, just me?

Meant to say, thanks to Mr Smyth for the route from Kingston and back, I used the one he posted in the route database.

This is the route we did (although it only goes from Fulham cos my friend did it).

  • Nope - it's a big ring climb. Just boring, and shitty road surface.

  • Yeah the surface near the top was pretty rubbish.

I was on 48/19, so no risk of a big ring!

  • Nice little pootle down to Richmond, Kingston, Hampton, Kempton Park then back via Twickenham, Mortlake, Putney....

Quite a nice day, SOOO much traffic though for some reason...

  • Went for a nice ride in the South Downs with my dad today, only managed 45 miles though as he struggles with the hills after a while. Lovely and sunny and lots of friendly people on club runs.
Also, saw FIVE red kites all flying around together, must have been a family. Those birds are enormous.

Not my photo unfortunately. Amazing animals.

Incidentally kids, 'The Red Kite Ride' - this Sunday, Sept 19th:

  • Same here. Had planned an outing yesterday, while the missus met her friends for lunch. But her lunch got canned, so my company duties were expected. Took her to Herne Hill and spent a pleasant hour watching the races in the Sept sun.

Not quite as nice as what shambolic got up to though!

Yeah. Nice preparation for this weekend's Tour of the Marsh 150k.

  • ^ big ring climb if you weigh in at 60kg maybe!!

Saturday I rode the Redmon CC 10 on the A24 south of Dorking - 24.39 on my road bike; 315w, 176bpm average.

On Sunday I did the Southern Sportive - 100 miles in the South Downs in 5hrs 25; 228w 148bpm average.

  • I rode 0.8 miles to the park, 0.5 miles around the park, then 0.8 miles home. I've got that 110km ride in 3 weeks time nailed.

  • Brixton to Brockley brakless*... Too many hills, bit hairy on the way there... Took the flat route home...

    • :D
  • Saturday morning, up early to meet Krisz at the Cyclelab + Juice Bar on Pitfield St at 6.30 our friend Gary also finally showed up closer to 7am. The 3 of us then road to St Albans and back holding a fiesty 33kph average with a short coffee and toast break in St Albans then ragged it back in order to get Krisz back in time to open up at 10am.
Great ride with good company the only down side was getting fucking dreched by the unforecast rain. Even recieved a cracking recovery smoothy once returned to the shop.

Sunday, not up quite so early but still saw many walks of shame*. This time just 2 of us riding from north London out through Crystal Palace on on into north Kent taking in the Pilgrims Way, Toys Hill, Bough Beech, Ide Hill and then the Bastard (Brastead Hill) before heading home. Only had a defective computer so no idea of mileage or speed but the weather more than made up for the drenching the day before.

    • :D

You what? It's about 4 miles you fanny, what's wrong with you!?

  • Actually I weight almost exactly 60kg, but doesn't that make it a smaller ring climb?!

I had no idea where I was going... Tbh I just wanted to type 'Brixton to Brockley brakless'... ;]

  • I noticed that, sunny day in affluent Surrey I think, although RP being closed to traffic was making the streets around it busier too.

Nice little pootle down to Richmond, Kingston, Hampton, Kempton Park then back via Twickenham, Mortlake, Putney....

Quite a nice day, SOOO much traffic though for some reason...

  • Another weekend of nice weather. This weekend I played a Sufferfest video. Well, the first 5 seconds. I didn't ride anything because I couldn't find a dropsheet and going outside would be breaking my new habit of spending all day every day indoors playing music and typing shit code.
I thought about riding though. The thought was nice.

  • Brasted Hill

    ftfy *

Lived for 29 years about 1/3 of a mile south of there, you could see it from the back garden. Surprisingly I only attempted it the once.

  • my weekend riding was spent talking to Tiswas and saying things like "we're idiots, what were we thinking?"

I fucking hate it but feel the need to do it whenever I'm out that way. It's the way it starts as a long drag then gets continually steeper. Anyway I don't care how you spell it to me it'll always be Bastard Hill!

  • ^it was a big ring climb at 72kg / 1.7m

If I was 60kg, I'd have to stick on the 55t.

  • But what would you run up front?

  • Anything bigger than 44t is a big ring.

  • A 25 mile round trip in the spit spot of precipitation to Tyrebagger Forest, then over to Kirkhill Forest and back to ABZ for a coffee and a muffin - nice!

  • Where do you live?

  • Sconny Botland

  • just had another couple of hours in the forest at Rempstone near Studland,
loving the dry sandy trails today.
    solitudenous experience.
Tommorrow- street race, extremes are the joys of life.
