  • Don't know how I got to this thread but looking at the picks at the beginning made me want my wild cat again (no sound effects on adult bikes).

Anyway quite a few manufacturers make smaller frames, the surly steamroller, Bianchi pista, fuji track, Specialized langster, Kona paddy wagon and quite a few more all come in 49cm.

  • Allo, wanted to introduce myself, just had the luck of being able to get a new bike after riding rickety old heaps for a few years, I'm always flying around London especially at night when energy and weather permit. would be lovely to see some of you around town and I'm going to try coming along to north / easts. drinks,,,,my loyalty is split as live spot inthe middle in no man's land. yipes...p'raps I should keep that one quiet.

    Rebecca.

  • What do you guys think of this (re small 49cm frame):

Anyone heard about this brand before?

  • no personal experience, but doing a search throws this up

  • Hi Ladies,

This thread is looking promising! I usually ride out on trnc and other jaunts but we need more girls! The ride are so much fun but it's got to be said, there bit of a sausage party. I would love to meet more lfgss girls out there!

    Nancy

  • Hi Nancy - not seen you for a while - did you do the Fireflys in the end?

I'll see you on TNRC this week. Also definitely up for more girls being on the rides - trying to start up a ladies training ride to help some of us (me) get faster. Although will wait til it stops effing raining!

They are mates of mine, the sloping top tube suited me very very well when I test rode one.
I still want one...but I haven't a use for one at this point.

I also have to throw out there that the Continuum I have is really, really nice to ride, also has a nicely sized top tube for us with reach issues.

(I also have to say that I'm sponsored by them...but I wouldn't bother saying anything about them if I didn't genuinly like the bike. I'm a bitch like that)

  • Hi, I'm de-lurking to introduce myself. :) I'm riding a Dutch-style bike at the moment but I want to build a SS road bike too. I'd like to get a vintage frame (70s or 80s maybe), preferably in steel.

What are the views on steel frames for road bikes? My male friends all say I should go with aluminium, but I find it very clattery to ride on.

Also, whoever was looking for a very small frame, there's a 19" steel Kona frame up on ebay at the moment: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Steel-Kona-Cindercone-single-speed-singlespeed-19-/260656656304?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR#ht_722wt_1137.

  • How tall are you?

  • How tall are you?

Me? I'm 5'7". Of the road bikes I've ridden, 54cm size feels about right.

  • Hey Ladies!!

I am somewhat new to the forum, and equally as new to England. I am an American fixed rider and I just moved to Newcastle. I know there is not really any ladies riding up here, but if anyone is in the area I would totally be in for a ride or traveling to go for a ride! Something nice about having ladies to ride with.

Oh and I prefer riding steel. As for my current steed, I on a far too small IRO frame, as I am a long legged lady, and somewhat disproportionate body (58 legs, 53 arms) so custom is the only way to go for me. And unfortunately (yet still fortunately) I have only a custom road bike...which you can see, if anyone is interested in some pictures of lady riders of Baltimore!!

  • Leigh - you ladies look so stylish - I am impressed by your skills at riding in heels! Which bike is yours?

I've put in a bid for this steel beauty: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280551784331#ht_500wt_1154 I love the nervex lugs on it. :D

  • Hi! I'm a newbie! Just joined and looking for help in building my first fixed bike.

I've been riding a dutch bike which is totally on its last legs!

Any suggestions as to whether I should go for a bike with a flat top tube or stick with a ladies frame? I've been told ladies frames maybe don't ride as well?

Riding in heels = infinitely easier than walking in heels

  • Blooming: bikes with flat tubes are more stable, as the diamond shape is stronger - most riders I know recommend this shape a lot. However, if you want a step-through (so you can get on & off easier, and so you can wear a skirt), then you could try a mixte rather than a loop frame. There are some really neat 1970s/80s mixte frames around. I've got a mixte which is lovely for easy, relaxed riding, but I've just got a diamond frame for doing longer distances.

Jenny: Haha, so true! Easier, and much less painful on your feet. :D

  • diamond shape is not only stronger but also lighter too, there's a compromise called a mixte frame if you're set on step-thru frame.

I am sure the ladies will thank you for clearing that up, Ed.

  • Hi,
Just registered. I've been cycling in London for about 2 years and I cycle to and from work.
I ride a Marin hybrid bike, with gears....Neither fixed or single speed. I hope that doesn't matter.
I'm also interested in learning more about the mechanics of a bike, as I only know how to change and fix tyres/inner tubes so far.

  • I am sure the ladies will thank you for clearing that up, Ed.

Come on, Will, who reads back so far in a thread? Good advice bears repeating at regular intervals.

  • Whoop! didn't see that.

  • Just registerd. Made me a single speed this summer and unstopable on it! Commute to and from work but I'd be interested in post-work rides, weekend stuff, canal rides, maybe CM.

  • Ok, well I suppose I should pipe up as well..

As soon as I got a job I sold my bike and bought a new one - gradually I started riding to and from work, then I bought my first fixed gear bike, AND THEN I BOUGHT THE PHAT BIKE, AND THEN I BOUGHT THE PHAT BIKE II and here I am.
