I've seen both sides and realised that there is a need. From my perspective of speaking to people at beginners, I think this would have helped.

Joni's got a point here lads, if there are beginners saying that it would be good to have a separate thread for them to start off with getting gear, then maybe its worth having - or at least discussing a bit.
