Hello all,
My 'usual' cycling forum just got banned in work, so now I've migrated over here to stop me from going insane and my more-dull-than-staring-at-old-men-playing-golf desk job.
I ride a bright orange Brian Rourke fixed and have lived around London for the past couple of years - most recently in SE1. Do say hello if you see me, and if I swear at you, it's probably because I assumed you were foffing off in my general direction, so no offence intended.

Hi all,
Just joined the forum. Currently have an out of action Falcon Strada after a couple of previous bikes were stolen. Needs some tinkering and a clean up and will be right I'm sure. I'm keen to get back out on the road ASAP so looking to replace and indeed get a project or two under my belt - I'm keen to know as much as I can about restore and repair. About to take ownership of a garden and I'm hopeful of using my shed as my own LBS (little bike shed).
Thanks for having me - hopeful of contributing something useful.

Hey all
My name is Tim and i'll be coming down to london from Glasgow, Currently just graduated from the Glasgow School of Art but luckily got my self an internship with a renowned PR company.
My question is theft...and the likely hood of it, obviously it is likely being down in london but i'm unsure of whether i'm gonna bring my fixed gear down or not.
Its a custom Fuji track 09, everything except the frame it's self has been customised. locking this up with a mini u kyptonite is enough to keep it outside work in glasgow however i've herd things from friend who live down in london that it doesn't really stop thieves stealing them.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Tim

tim do a search for ga2g's locks that work thread, you'll probably need more than a mini d if you plan on locking your bike up for anything longer than an hour or two. Best not to leave the bike locked up outside overnight as well.
Best to ask at work if they have any areas where you can lock your bike up securely, also have a think abut where you'll be living, and if there's space to keep the bike inside rather than out.
hope it helps, also don't be a stranger at drinks, it'll hopefully ease the transition and make london a friendlier place... -

You think this will be enough? Preferably i'd like to have a mini u and a new york mini u but as i'm sacraficing 2 weeks unpaid leave i'm pretty broke as it is. Luckily work has space for bikes in side and im sure i should be able to bring the bike in over night hopefully.
Wouldn't mind coming along to one of the fixed beers as london does moderatly scare the shit out of me, none the less sure itll be reet after a week or so.
Definatly going for the helment option though... Glasgow is smaller and i know the roads back to front so i tend to take the 'live for ever' option however coming down to london completely new to all the routes i'm not sure i wanna take the same path. Thanks for replying none the less, really helpful!
Cheers

Just singed up on here!
I'm a bit of a bike newbie, but i'm looking to get my first road bike pretty soon (I used to ride a bmx)Question: I've seen a second-hand shogun with some great parts at a reasonable price, but it's a size up (a 22", rather than a 21"), does this make much difference?
hoping to become a regular on here :)

Hi, just joined as I am moving away from mountain bikes and am hoping to build myself a fixed gear bike, bought a unknown painted frame recently from someone for a fiver and it looks like it could make a good fixed gear bike so, I am in the process of making it into one.
Thanks

Hi All am New here and fairly new to fixed gear ..have commuted on various geared bike around london for a while ..I've just finished a fixie build of a 1989 Kirk Magnesium road frame I had .
This is my first fixie It has taken about 2 months to complete this build. I used a old (made in UK in 1989 by Frank Kirk) and very rare Kirk Precision cast Magnesium frame that I have had in the garage for a while. It was originally a 10sp road bike but the derailleur hanger broke off and could not be fixed as its almost impossible to weld or solder magnesium. I had it in mind to build it into a fixie for a few years and now it’s done.
Pics of build are here if interested. -

Hi - new to the board but been riding fixed for a few years now. Although thinking of putting together a new ride (with gears!!). Any ideas...perhaps a 29er for the road or an internal hub geared bike? Also anyone go to Euro Bike this year?

Hey all, New to this particular forum even though I've been nicking advice off here for a good while. Currently running 2 single speeds (road & mtb) and now, finally, a fixed! So I thought it might be time to sign up and say hello.
So, Hello!
Paul.

Hello all I'm another new kid. Been riding single speed mountain and hybrid bikes for years. I've reconditioned and converted to single speed an old friends 1960 Viking road bike but it's too small for me. Planning to do another build once I've sorted a couple of bits on that and flogged it. Anyway just thought I'd say hello.

I should say hello, having registered back in June. Been commuting (and generally cycling around) on a Schwinn Madison since early June (since when the wheels, stem and bars have all been upgraded).
Oh, and I naturally had a look around to see what people thought about the Madison as a bike and found this. Now, I do live in Brixton, my Madison is yellow and I sometimes wear a yellow top but that wasn't me, honest ;) Didn't even have the bike in April.

29er's worth thinking about. I'm riding a single speed, rigid fork, steel frame 29er and it rules. I've got two cogs on the back one for road one for off road. It's great fun and puts a smile on my face every time I ride. Them big wheels just keep on rolling......
Riiiiiiiiiiiight, well I'm not going in there with any preconcieved ideas I'm just looking to make the most of it. If she hates it that could be a reflection on your sister as much as the College itself.
