all locked together with a orange kryptonite lock! anyone in hoxton or shoreditch please keep you eyes peeled! much apreciated!
if you see it please email me its location or give us a call!

  • outside your flat?? did you lock it outside instead of bringing it indoor in the hip end of east london of all place?

sorry to hear about this though.

  • the scoundrel on the infamous orange klein, today heading south on kingsland road, 11:10

Thanks jv, still no luck on spotting him. Are you seeing any patterns? The first few seemed to be around 9pm, so I've tried that a few times but have had no luck.

  • Sorry are we talking about the same lock? There's a lot of different types. I'm talking about the Abus, Gold Sold Secured, Granit Steel-O-Flex?
    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Abus_Granit_Steel_O_Flex_1000_100cm_Cable_Bike_Lock/5220000043/?referid=frogoog&source=googleps

It's not going to get gold if it's easily broken. And if you're saying this lock is rubbish you're basically saying ALL locks are rubbish

Absolutely not. There is a thread on here called LOCKS THAT WORK. The information you need,
relating to various locks and their level of protection, or not, is there. Please take a few moments
to read just the first post there.

  • Hadn't seen this advice from Dylan. Please, I hope that you have at least looked at the link. No. ALL locks are not rubbish.
If you look at the link Dylan and I suggested to you, you will soon know which locks work best. And which do not.

Have to disagree with this. This is the first bike I've had stolen in 4 years and the first one with a Steel-O-Flex. It's a great lock.

you will learn padawan, the hard way it seems.
They are crap. Everyone in the know, knows this. take a look here,

you'll learn a thing or two about locks.

  • I had a bike (cannondale F400) removed by contractors renovating Sainsbury's.

They took out the entire bike rack and removed the bike, and Sainsbury's claim no knowledge and nothing can be done. I'm not sure if this counts as "stolen", but it feels like it should. At least I know that with all my locks and alarms they must remember removing it, as it would have been a devil of a job (let's just say I was following the "Locks that work" thread very thoroughly)

Be aware that even secure concreted thick metal bike racks might just get up and walk someday. I won't be trusting Sainsbury's racks again anyway.

  • If its within the Sainsburys grounds, the chances are that it will be recorded on CCTV. Report your bike to the police, as stolen, and name Sainsburys management as the suspect....explaining the circumstances. I'm pretty sure you'll get a response then, and if not your bike back quite quickly, then Sainsburys owe you a replacement bike.

Cannondale F400 you say? Are your quite sure it wasn't a Pearson 150, or something of similar value? You may have made an error in remembering quite which bike you had taken. ;)

  • Thanks jv, still no luck on spotting him. Are you seeing any patterns? The first few seemed to be around 9pm, so I've tried that a few times but have had no luck.

usually see him on kingsland around 9.30 - 10.30am and 7.00 - 8.00pm hope you get him soon

  • Thanks GA2G, I've been considering options after the local store management weren't able to help (really useless). They don't appear to be accepting any liability or that there's any recourse.

It was directly under the CCTV cameras (which was why I kept it there), but apparently they weren't operating due to the refurbishment...

There is probably a separate camera that spotted you coming into the complex, if not parking up.
It will also show that you don't leave with your bike. They don't only have one camera....I'm sure of that.

  • Mtb'r. The answer that the cam was not working... could be total and utter bollocks.

Easier for Sainsbury types to claim it was not working... The idea of going to the Old Bill sounds a good one to me...

    Good luck, what a story.

  • I tend to store the bike there most of the time as it's close to where I'm staying and I can't take it inside (plus it was a secure looking thick metal rack under a CCTV camera in a well lit open area, visible from many adjacent buildings and roads - probably much harder to steal than if I kept it inside).

I was away for a few of days whist they refurbished the store. There were no signs or warnings that it would be taken, though I can understand that they wanted to replace the rack. There's no other CCTV cams covering the area, and I've been chasing them about this for 3 weeks, meaning that any footage would probably be gone anyway (If you know what I'm saying...)

Sainsbury's local management claim the contractors didn't tell them about removing any bikes, and that they currently have no information and can't do anything. Essentially they seem to be saying that the contractors were operating independently of Sainsbury's jurisdiction and responsibility. This does not wash with me.

I bet there were other bikes attached that were also taken, some other people seemed to store theirs there regularly.

They would definitely remember removing mine as it had £200 worth of locks holding it in place, including an Abus Granit extreme 59, multiple cables, and an alarmed padlock. In total, the thing probably weighed more than the rack it was locked to along with the concrete, and would have made quite a bit of noise.

I'll be chasing up the contractors as well as Sainsbury's head office, and depending on the response will be reporting it as stolen.

  • @chameleon

    Was this lock.

I'd bought it as a stop gap until getting a "proper" lock I already had back off a friend's bike.

Try to contact Mark Rigby, Director of Corporate Affairs at Sainsbury's, send him a copy of the link to this site, email address is the same as the bosses I suspect... justin.king@sainsburys.co.uk, the chief exec.

Although of course you could email justin and copy mark...... nice reasonable note expressing your 'disappointment' and would he mind looking into it?

  • My stepson Costa had his Ian White bike stolen yesterday after a burglary in his Kilburn flat.

Forced entry through a ground floor window.

The bike is mostly Shimano 600 equipped.

Costa is gutted because it was made specially for him and didn't come from a shop.

Please help him get it back. Reward!

  • Hey guys,

First post here. Hope you don't judge me for not having a fixey/single speed but putting the word out.

Silver 20" GT Avalanche 1.0 Disc stolen from my doorstep on Southey Road (between Oval and Brixton, S.London) Friday 3rd September about 7pm. Got distracted by phone as I entered my house and left it under the porch. Next thing I knew a neighbour knocked at the door informing me that some kids had just taken it. The doorway is set back from the road behind bushes so someone came on the property to take it. We gave chase but to no avail. All my fault and no insurance. Momentary lapse. I don't even risk leaving the bike locked up places much so this is pretty hard to take as you might imagine.

    Picture: http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/4773/dsc00795.jpg
Even though it's pretty stock it has some distinctive features to look out for if you spot it (some fitted after pic):

    • Specialized Armadillo road tyres (with brown side wall).
    • Specialized Avatar Gel seat
    • Silver DMR V8 solid metal pedals (just fitted).
    • Mount for a Cateye Strada computer on the handlebar stem, counter on fork, magnet on front wheel.
    • Front/rear cateye lights.
    • Black rear seat post mounted mudguard.
    • Small dent on underside of downtube (there since new, got money off ;) )
    • both GT branded handlebar grip end inserts missing, one replaced with a basic black insert, other missing.

Don't tend to see many of these around on my 2000miles of London commuting Ive done in the last 18 months of having it from new so if you see one give me a shout. I've got the frame number and proof of ownership.

In the highly likely event I don't get the bike back I'm probably going to get my own custom single speed up and running in a fetching White/Red/Gold style, this looks a cool community I may yet prove my individuality to.

    Cheers

  • Any joy? Bump.

  • In Leeds but hey:

Woodrup with Record groupset (aka 'racing bike) -Dodgy! (cough)
    13mins to go

  • My Giant Yukon (dual disc, 19" silver and blue frame 2010 model) was stolen from the 4th floor of a secure building in Clapton 18th August, locked with a D-lock and a cable lock (useless I now know) to a metal railing built into the building. Police are treating it as a burglary but have given up. i've tried Gumtree every day, ebay, Loot, Brick Lane twice and I really miss my beautiful bike. If anyone sees her please do let me know.

I was kicking myself for not having her secured with a motorbike chain i'd bought but looking at the videos on here of them being cut through in 20 seconds I'm not sure this obviously very determined thief would have been that much put off by it.

  • P.S. Does anyone know how effective the security marking kits available from the bike register are? Or failing that does covering the bike in stickers/a respray actually work to deter thieves?

  • How did they get through the D lock?

  • This might amuse... from PR Week..... Aviva Insurance trying to get bikes stolen to promote bike insurance...

    http://www.prweek.com/uk/news/search/1025455/Hit-Miss-Aviva-bungled-stunt-peddle-bike-insurance/

  • Should have left them in Brick Lane..

  • Nothing.

I've spent an hour a day on Ebay/Gumtree and Bikeshed and the bloke that had it stolen (note i've dropped the word friend) claims he has spent every waking hour in Brick Lane but seen and heard nothing from anyone. He's also been to all the well known bike shops/mechanics with fliers, but no response.

I've signed up on Ebay for a year to cover "Dave Hinde" "Lo Pro" etc and even "Trispoke" as I imagine someone now might have broken it down into composite parts. In some way I hope some scumbag has decided to keep it and will eventually wobble off it and die horribly.

Still trying to haggle over the replacement cost for an irreplaceable bike with him on email as I don't think a face to face would be a good idea.

Please please continue to keep you're eyes peeled - can't be too many lo-pro's about and there's still a huge reward on offer.

  • It's such a distinctive frame, I'm surprised no-one's spotted it yet. Maybe it's lying in some thief's back yard because he found it impossible to ride.

    Eyes = peeled.
