Dreadlocks and riding

ive got really long hair that spends most of it life tied back and under various hats.

im thinking about getting dreads, but im concerned this is going to make riding very uncomfortable due to getting very hot and sweaty. also is it possible to wear a helmet?

anyone have any experience here?
