I prefer not to thanks. It just means thinking ahead a little more. As I say, get the right technique and It can be used efficiently. I do have to use the brake more than those with straps but it's my choice. I prefer not to spent money I don't have on something I don't need
when you ride a fixed wheel bicycle you need strap, you're just saying that because you don't want to get used to flipping the pedal and sliding your feet in the cage, and thereforth claim it's 'better' that way.
I made the same error, end up getting foot retention, much much better and realise how stupid it was to ride without foot retention.
