Actualy my original reason for posting was to disagree with sparkies legal eagle in his article three pages back!
He said you have to have a front brake, I'm pretty sure the law states you have to have two independant brakes, not that they have to be on different wheels?! Ie a fixed with back brake is legal, a caliper and disc brake on the same wheel, so long as there are two seperate levers, cables and actual braking mechanisms...
This brings me onto the thing that bugs me so much about this arguement, the law is set up as it is not because two brakes are better for stopping but because if one brake fails you still have a back up (except for direct drive as obviously if a direct drive brake fails your wheels probably fallen off :)
Ps, in case you are having a problem with the answer to my question mr Borneo, it has been mentioned at least twice in the last three pages...
