  • as above there are some nasty looking characters that seemingly stick together. i dont think they would take kindly to being photographed. it would have to be done covertly

Toally agree 100% plus the fuckers melt away...

I am thinking cell phone pics might be the only way...

Oh and have someone taking pics of you taking pics etc. for when you get your head kicked in... just sayin...

  • Was about to go sleep then I remembered this.

I saw the guy on the famous orange Klein bike at Clerkenwell road / Back Hill heading straight to Theobald's Road around quarter to 6 hope it helps!

Cheers! You're all invited to a bike reunion party when I finally get it back.

  • Sadly the Merckx I've had up for sale on the forum - http://www.lfgss.com/thread47355.html#post1600410 - was stolen from our flat in Hackney on Sunday afternoon, along with a Charlie Roberts bike refinished in Dave Marsh decals (see picture).

As well as the Merckx, the Roberts is quite distinctive, 61cm in blue and white with Dave Marsh stickers all over it, Dura Ace components.

Obviously this is quite a fisting and if anybody is offered either of these bikes or otherwise has any info please let me know - 07929 600 197. Thanks for your help,

  • nightmare. eyes peeled. as you say they're both very distinctive (and lovely - shame this is the way I found out about the merckx as I'd certainly have taken it off your hands if I saw it earlier...

  • All - Colnago CT1 Titanium / Carbon frame.

Stolen from E14 (East London) Tuesday 19th August. Silver frame, easily recognisable with carbon rear triangle & front fork. Yellow Colnago stickers and very tatty frame - frame had taken a battering. All working fine, but bike looks very well used.

Don't suppose anyone has seen / been offered this?

Didn't think to go to Brick Lane last Sunday, is it still worth me going this Sunday or do people rekon its well gone?

  • What wheels? Anything distinctive?

  • Handlebar bag attachment - but could easily have been removed ... unless they're looking for a quick sale and can't be bothered to take it off ...

I'd say the most distinctive thing about it, is that the frame, although titanium did have a sheen type finish over it ... it was starting to peel particulary around the seat post join and top tube. I mean, it wasn't in great aesthetic nick which would put it in the minority of an already minority bike ...

This said, it still went like hell

  • Stolen from E14 on August 19t - please shout if anyone sees this

  • Concorde single speed - the major casualty of my house getting burgled. will post photo's later.

Went missing on 19/20th august from Dalston. It'd got a purple/black frame (oria tubing) with "Concorde" in white. - metal drop bars (no tape) - with crosstop brake levers. and a black Rolls saddle with gold trim.

If anyone sees it, on the road or for sale, let me know.

not holding out much hope but worth putting it out there -

    Matt

  • First post so I can only reply at the moment.

I had a nice 2 month old Fuji track bike stolen from outside the Canton Arms (between Stockwell and Brixton) last Friday night. It was locked to a streetpost with an Abus Steel-O-Flex right OUTSIDE the pub

I can't be sure how it was stolen as the bike and lock were gone but my best guess is that they removed the sign (there were two brackets on the pavement) and lifted the bike clear over the top of the post. It retrospect it wasn't the tallest post but it was still a good 8 ft.

It's a pretty distinctive bling paintjob http://www.fujibikes.com/Specialty/Track/TrackComp.aspx and it's mine if the front wheel been replaced with a standard Open Pro rim on a pewter Goldtec hub. Condor black brake lever, chrome tiagra brake and spd pedals on it too.

I'm not expecting to get it back but if you can you bear it in mind if you're on ebay or Gumtree for the next few weeks.

If nothing else remember to lock a bike to a post that high enough, or is shaped such that the bike cant be removed by lifting. I feel such an idiot for being done like this.

  • There's a gumtree ad on tv at the mo. Somebody needs to spoof it.

If nothing else don't waste time with steel-o-flexes. Lost my road bike the same way earlier this year while locked in a very public place. Obviously they don't take much time/effort/noise to break. Sorry about your bike though - keep an eye on bikeshd.

My friend spotted a bike suspiciously similar to his stolen one on gumtree today. Lots of changed bits if it is the same (saddle, pedals, tyres, bottle cages, bar tape) but the desticker'd mavic wheels are the same and the unusual cranks look the same too so worth a look. Fingers' crossed

  • Need some advice on the best way to cost up what he owes me assuming it isn't found. I imagine it's being ridden around in another country by now.

As I obviously can't go into Brixton Cycles and buy another one, I think the best way to go is to break it down into individual parts and charge him like that. What do you think?

I realise that the frame is old but I think a like for like replacement would be fair?

The locks he borrowed amounted to £150 and i'd only just spent £160 on a full service and new bars/brakes.

Trying to get through to Dave Hinde to see how much they would cost to make up a custom made lo-pro frame with internal brake lines and finished with enamel/chroming. I don't think it's going to be cheap.

I keep hoping i'm going to see someone riding around on it. Please let me catch someone riding around on it....

Have to disagree with this. This is the first bike I've had stolen in 4 years and the first one with a Steel-O-Flex. It's a great lock. About 2 years ago I came back to my bike locked in Brick Lane with 2 police stood next to it.

    Police: "Is this your bike?"
    Me (cautiously): "Yeah..."
Police: "Well we caught someone trying to break the lock and wondered fi we could take a statement?"

That's the thing about security though - it's an arms race. I had my first Fuji Track nicked when someone sliced very neatly (no nibbling or levering the plates apart) through a Steel-o-Flex. Times change and clearly at least some thieves are going equipped with something that will cut them very cleanly. Thus, while they're hella convenient, they can't really be recommended for anything one gives a toss about.

Sorry are we talking about the same lock? There's a lot of different types. I'm talking about the Abus, Gold Sold Secured, Granit Steel-O-Flex?

It's not going to get gold if it's easily broken. And if you're saying this lock is rubbish you're basically saying ALL locks are rubbish

  • ^ ratings are bollox, they are useless most of the time
YouTube- Various Sold Secure and Thatcham chains chopped.

    all cable locks are shit

my mate lost a 36-hour-old langster in broad daylight with this exact lock

Yes. They're very, very good for a cable lock. Which is a bit like saying very, very heat resistant for a chocolate bar.

The Sold Secure / Thatcham ratings have been demonstrated to be irrelevant so many times it's laughable.

you will learn padawan, the hard way it seems.

    take a look here,

you'll learn a thing or two about locks. great thread.

  • Another sad loss to add to the pile. Had my beloved Schwinn Panther beach cruiser stolen from outside my flat in Harringay Green Lanes while I slept last night.

It's pretty distinctive with the curved cruiser frame, plus massive bullhorn handlebars, mudguards, rear rack, huge headlight, Brooks sprung saddle, coaster brake and balloon tyres. Everything is black, black, black, except the head badge which I stripped the paint off so is just silver. Has 8 ball valve caps and matching bell.

I'll take a look round Brick Lane this weekend - it's Sunday I need to go on right? the earlier the better? But if anyone has seen it round town I'd be grateful for info.

Piccy attached but I've changed the bars and saddle since as well as other bits, but you get the idea.

    thanks

  • Ahh...so you are saying all locks are rubbish. Fair enough

  • Ahh...so you are saying all locks are rubbish. Fair enough

every lock is breakable nowdays. Just that some locks take longer and require specific tools to break.

bolt croppers anyone can carry, and so any lock susceptible to them are very vulnerable, like your lock.

The NY Fag u-lock on the other hand isn't bolt croppable, and so requires an angle grinder, not something your average tea leaf carries up his sleeve.

ten four buddy, the earlier the better, even though the market isn't exactly 'open' yet, I still see kids bringing in bike every now and then hoping to flog them.
