  • i went to the lorry driver / cyclist awareness event.

    my thoughts are:

    1. the blind spot is not very big at all.

    2. the lorry driver has so many mirrors that it must be very difficult processing all that information into a meaningful / safe decision. i counted five mirrors all pointing in different directions. with the front window and two side windows that means the driver is trying to process and make sense of eight images all at once. it seems a lot to me.

    3. i remain of the view that these lorries and so many mpv's in a built up area are dangerous.

    4. as i said to the police at the event the result is to stay safe so i will keep moving if the coast is clear and if that means doing an rlj then so be it.

    5. the seargeant in charge of the event was rude to me / is a bully.

    6. they stamped my ticket so i do not have to pay the fine of £30 so i will make a donation of £30 to the road peace charity.

    7. i will continue to use my local environment in a responsible, safe and sustainable way - by cycling not driving.

^ sorry if this all seems a bit formal. but it is a serious issue. people are getting killed out there and it is my belief that those with responsibility for it are not concentrating hard / acting quickly enough.

ps i did say my peice to the seargant in charge re the bigger picture on road safety. he laughed in a forced kind of way. i thought he was a rather patronising man.

    anyway enough.
