buy it all. all his old stuff
the £100 bike has a good condition brooks on (they are best when they are well worn in like this one but not falling appart) and the diaganol 531 indicates the whole frame and forks are built with reynolds 531 (not just the 3 main tubes). If you belive the sticker, since its a resprey decal.... the lug work at the front of the frame is lovley too
strange mix of parts, newer logo cinelli stem, great italian campagnolo nuovo record deralieurs, great condition japanese shimano 600 cranks and the great french simplex (retro friction?) shifters. Strange mix of parts for a bike but he probally liked it that way.
date codes on the back of the cranks will be two letters and you can google that. brooks usually have a simple date code and the camapagnolo parts often have a pat number which is the year made
The spare levers and pedals might even fetch you £25+ each on ebay if you take better photos and find out which models they are on velobase.

I'm going to be selling these parts, but before I do I like to know what they are/ how much they're worth before that so any help would be appreciated. First dibs/ discount goes to fellow darkies obviously.
I'll put some more/better pictures up tomorrow, I also have some Shimano 600 stuff which needs to go to if anyone is interested, such as this:
cheers for any help you can provide,
Jack

On most (not all) Bill Nickson frames from the 80's the rear bridge has BN stamped/pressed in, are there any markings on the BB case? Best option might be the have a chat with Bill Nickson Jr at the shop

You could have a dig around on http://www.disraeligears.co.uk, which might help.

I am one lucky sunofagun, i have just been GIVEN this bike. I'm told by a raleigh chopper fan i know that its a 'cruiser', (useful huh?) not made by raleigh, but I have no idea how to identify it, there are no logo's no frame numbers, nothing, all I know is it came in a 'flat pack' possibly as recently as 2004,its all a bit vague really, but I love it and I'm stripping it down already to go get her powder coated.
Anyone out there recognize the model? the Manufacturer? I'm all googled out I've come up with nothing.

Hi new here and to bikes in general. Been lurking a little but not sure if this is the right place to ask.
Was given an old lugged frame by a friend, It's is pretty beat up but hopfully should work for my first bike. It's only identifying decals are EUROSTAR And a small Made in West Germany sticker. Anyone know anything about it, or where I could find out any details on it?

i have found that bearing in the top picture at SJS http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/product.asp?pf_id=11467&src=froogle - -says its a push fit bearing for frames without a thread. Check park tools for a way to get these out...

thanks man! will check it out!

a bearing puller set will get this out, this one's unbelievably cheap
alternatively, judicious tapping with a universal adjuster and a piece of wood

Hi there. I have recently acquired this old thing and am curious to know a little more about it. As you can see from the photos this frame has Merlin branding (Merlin Racing Cycles, Leeds on the logo) but having been in touch with Bob Jackson cycles they think they may be responsible for the paint job/ respray but they do not think it is one of their frames.
I thought it might be an Ellis Briggs (looked similar to some of their models, particularly the triangular cutouts on the forks, but they say they use 4 digit serial numbers).
There are 2 numbers- 281 and 36- stamped on the bottom bracker which Bob Jackson think may relate to the colours used.
So does anybody have any idea what it might be? The frame number appears to be 2106193- stamped on the bottom bracket.
I'm new to this road biking lark but it would be nice to know something about it.
Over to you...

Have you tried Woodrup, another Leeds based framebuilder.
The lugwork and fork crown do look similar to a Woodrup I owned in the 80's, but having said that, it looks common to many frame builders from that era.
no response from him as yet
