I had my the wheels stolen off my Mercian a couple of weeks ago on Columbia Road, I didn't go to the cops purely for the reason that they don't give a shit, especially as it's not a whole bike.
I was going to head to Brick Lane last Sunday but couldn't make it - what are the chances of them being for sale there this weekend?
Shit, exact same thing happened to my friend last night, suzue or the same hubs on open pros off his mercian outside the haggerston... and already had a bad night.
Doubt they'll turn up, but eyes peeled ey? -

The yellow track with Coppi fork is still locked up in Clapton. It's now missing its saddle and seatpost as well as rear wheel, and it's been there nearly two weeks, so I guess it's been abandoned, either by a thief or by its owner after the wheel was taken (???).

A 'Barclays' might cheer me up...actually, no it won't. I've been checking Ebay/Brick Lane/Gumtree and Bikeshed every single day. Nothing yet.

Friend was an idiot and got the bike stolen
If the bike was near perfect for you then get it recreated
Lucifer here had his general lucifer frame crushed and his bob Jackson is a recreation of that with similar tubes and geo.
The othe option is to get friend to buy you a modern equivalent, so if it were a mid range bike he has to pay for a mid range modern bike.
One of the reasons why I rarely even use anyone elses bike, even if its just the option of ride to the end of the road and back is that I am terrified of damaging it and then having this type of issue to conten with.

I shouldn't really be posting here as mine's not a single speed but both my mate's and my bikes were nicked last night. They were both locked to the cycle bars on the corner of Rivington Street and Curtain Road beside The Diner. What's particularly galling is that we were eating in The Diner and one of us had a fairly good view of the bikes.
We only used one lock which is a lesson in itself and it was an Abus Steel-O-Flex. If I get another bike it'll be D-Locks all the way. The only hope I have is that these cycle bars are underneath a CCTV camera. Has anyone had any success with bike recovery when CCTV has picked up a plate?
Needless to say we're both gutted. Our bikes aren't very distinctive but if you do happen to see a blue Charge Plug with Specialized all-condition armadillo tyres or a black Charge Mixer with short riser bars instead of the flat ones then i'd appreciate a heads up (07870559241). Fat chance though, I know... I'll be scouring bikeshd.co.uk and be heading down Brick Lane at the weekend... Thanks all.

@patch
Was wondering if anyone who'd had a bike stolen and the thief was caught on CCTV if the police were able to recover the bike by tracing the plate back to its owner. As I say I'm not holding out much hope but you never know, that CCTV camera may have actually been working AND pointing in the right direction!!
thanks for your kind words patch. -

Got two bikes stolen out of our yard in Hackney Wick on Saturday night. First one was a Mercurio, racer. I don't know much about it as it was our neighbors. The second one was a beautiful Raleigh Shopper. Very good condition. Chrome racks at the back and front. Purple 'Shopper' print on tube. One black and one white grip, new white walled tires and lock wrapped around the seat tube.
Give me a call if anyone sees them. 0 seven seven seven 2 nine 7 3 one 69 (is there a reason why people write the numbers like this? Well I just do it.)
Thanks everyone.
Ps. the image of the racer doesn't show the stolen one. I found the image online but it is definitely the same colour and handle bar tape. The image of the shopper shows the stolen one (and the legs of it's owner)

The Shopper seemed likely to show up in Brick Lane, don't forget to pop round early on Sunday (at least 8am) to look out for it.

hello all,
my dolan precursa was stolen from my garden near downham road last night.
here is a picture of this year's version from the dolan website, just to visualize it. matt black, with lots of white 'dolan' signs on it. frame size 60cm.what is different compared to picture is:
flat handlebar, cut relatively short, with red handlebar grips
white tyres, front one is vittoria rubino, back one is halo
dura ace cranks, gear is 42x25 so one has to pedal quite a lot
front brakes only
frame is covered with lots of little chips and scrapesother not so noticeable differences:
fork came with the frame and similar to this one, black, but says dolan instead of the alpina thing
(i think) mavic v rims, black/metallic; high flange hubs (miche and x)
shitty vicount black saddle
on left side of the top tube (left if sitting on the bike), close to where it meets with the saddle post, terry dolan signature with black marker (it is visible from close range as it is shinier than the frame)thanks!

Ooh this one's getting quite interesting, ponytail guy's going to get a shock...
maybe there's a lesson here for others in the same situation - if you lend a bike, don't lend locks with it. in the end, any lock can be cut in five minutes, if the thief is determined - so the protection is mostly illusory... but many people don't know that - and they'll put their trust in something like a fahgeddaboutit, believing it to be totally secure...
