I believe You can run a light for your own safety.

If it is clear the vehicle behind you is not going to stop in time and would hit you if you stopped you can then go through.

So the one time you actually stopped at a red light, you could legally have jumped it, didn't, and then got hit by a car....your logic is flawed.
