If I may be bold enough to add, the theme of Americas place in world politics and history was also dealt with deftly. True to Stallones life long mission to liberate the underdog, the island and its inhabitants in this film are portrayed as the innocents, harking back to a time before the crass materialism of Americana arrives, the purity and innocence of the islander existence can be seen as a metaphor for what the mercenaries have lost. I would be surprised if there arent multiple Oscars earnt from the acting performances too.
