    I have just removed 2 bolts that had snapped off and left the remains inside the cog with nothing exposed.
    If needed, Dremmel flat, or centre punch the end of the bolt to get you started. Drill a hole into the snapped bolt as large as you can without hitting the threads (you should be able to feel the different metal when drilling to avoid damage)
    then hammer the pointed end of a small metal file into the hole. Mole grip the file and turn, hopefully (as long as you've bitten the bolt with the edge of file) the bolt will turn with it. As I say, worked twice without a problem. threads undamaged and good as new.

    Now, I can't figure out whether thread lock is a good thing, or bad. I assume these bolts snapped when he previous owner tried to remove them.

    Local bike shop is helping me sort this out, as well as removing the stuck BB (plastic!), the local mechanic told me it's no problem and can easily find a way to removed it.
