i know i shouldn't be asking this , but would that 52 frame be the right size for a short arsed welshman about 5'7 tall ... no idea what road frame sizes are all about ... 17" mountain bikes were the right fit though
-
• #254
i reckon you could get away with a 52. maybe try and ride someone elses first to check though
-
• #255
Agreed... A 52 is the sort of size I look for, so would prob fit you.

mmmm .. its all starting to get a bit too tempting .... this fixie thing ... been looking around outa idle curiosity, and found a gary fisher (cant help it, the guy is a bit of a hero of mine) frame on ebay ..200496026723 ... £29 so far but its in oxford
.... but then i went and fell in love with this ..http://www.identitibikes.com/identitibikes/products-details.php?id=FMIT7FLH
!!!!!either way, i'm buying nowt till polo next week, when i can bounce a few more ideas around

@ nige
that frame looks pretty good, and identiti stuff is normally strong as fuck, my forks are their ffx model
considering that looks like more of a trick frame, id say its perfecto for polo -
• #258
oh and also, i ride a 52, maybe try out mine and see how it feels?
-
• #259
cheers tris .. i'll try not to crash it ... think i know the direction i want to head now though .. and its looking vintage !!!!! .. that chromed identiti frame is sweet tho

The longer you own it, the more difficult it will be to get rid of it, and it will break your heart.
The painful truth
This would be why I own so many bikes then...
Just picked up a new geared road bike (Kona Zing Deluxe), rode it to RCYB on Saturday and Pete wasnt there to see me actually ride something I own...
Anyway, on the sizing thing Nige - I vary between a 52 and a 56 for a road bike depending on geometry at 5'10". IMHO the only way to find out is to ride one, or to match sizing with a known frame of similar geometry.

im sending my new frame away to get painted up and I need a box to put it in. Don't suppose anyone has got a cardboard box big enough for a 58cm track frame?
Cheers!
-
• #266
actually Gav, over the last few weeks i have somehow accumulated 3 or 4 big bike/frame boxes that I need to get rid of. one can be yours if you want?
-
• #267
anything to do with your obsessive desire to own all the fixed gear bikes in the world phil?
I'll def take one off you. Drop me a txt and let me know how I can get it etc.
Cheers dude.

• #268
Still have those bike boxes left? Need to send a frame to someone.
-
• #269
might have one yeah, it might be big though
-
• #270
That's fine, drop me a message about picking it up. Cheers mate.

• #271
I should be in Newcastle within a week or two with an empty box if youre still looking. I ride around a 58.

Have you got a head set press at rcyb? Do I have to pay to use it? Hate to say it but am I better off getting a professional to do it? Spent about an hour with blocks of wood, mallet head pipe and a hammer trying to get new one in with zero success. Can't get the crown and fork races on either. It's my first experience with an ahead set so taken agin them already
-
• #273
installing crown race and cups is the same on ahead and threaded...
we have a press but its a bit shit. we also have a big long threaded rod with 2 plates and nuts on either end, that is also a bit shit. it will work but it can be annoying.
i'd say take it to a shop. partly because we probs cant help you till next week anyway
-
• #274
Yeah, I know it's the same. Just pissed off that I've fallen at the first hurdle so had to take it out on the 'new' technology. Read loads of stuff about doing it but everyone says, if in doubt, take it to a shop because you will fuck it. Never had a problem before, they've always gone in with a bit of gentle hammer persuasion

Took it to bike shop in Alnwick, so tight they got the headset press stuck in it. Not going to be able to pick it up til Wednesday. Must be god's way of telling me fire bike is irreplaceable.
It's always tempting to buy something when offered it just because it's there and available and ticks some of your boxes, but the truth is you know it's the wrong size for you and it would make your life a misery in the long run. Hard as it sounds, it is probably best for you to keep looking for something more suitable, otherwise you'll get emotionally attached to this frame and it will be the beginning of a long and painful one-sided and ultimately unrewarding love affair. The longer you own it, the more difficult it will be to get rid of it, and it will break your heart.
