Has anyone tried riding around with wheel covers on their daily bike? I'm thinking of putting a 4/5in strip down one side of my front wheel to protect it from the ball/my own mallet but as it's my daily bike I dont want to make it dangerous in wind.
If anyone hasn't done it before then I'll report back to you on how many times I crashed

Yep loads of people have and do (see the rik verses the wind thread in the main forum)... Just means you can't ride no handed... Or loose handed, particularly at cross roads or on bridges.

wow brilliant thread!
Rik is awsome
First time i met him was following this big man on a polo bike from dalston to bermondsey he was pedalling so fast on his c40 gear inches and i could hardly match his speed on my 65 inches. Following a brief exchange at a set of lights about bike polo I became an instant convert.
Then he goes and buggers off to berlin :-( -

As far as I'm concerned the following is a must:
- Plug yor bars
- Plug the end of your mallet
- Exposed chainrings must be covered/removed (if removed, the spider exposed arms can't stick out)
- Mallet head shouldn't have a sharp/sticking bolts or bits of plastic
- Cable ends should be crimped
The other points are optional
I reckon this thread needs bumping. - Plug yor bars
