I run a 3 speed hub and a 7 speed casette with a single chainring. It works great giving me 21 gears with no overlap. It would be easy to change the rear wheel to a SS/fixed set up. Haven't had any problems yet changing the shifters to sti.

I'm sure there was a bike posted in here quite recently (this summer at least) that ran a double with a hub gear. It was something with small wheels and looked really good. Is this commonly done? It seems like a good idea, but I've not really seen it much which suggests it has some draw backs.

will doing that result in a chainline that is always slightly off, like on a dingle setup that was talked about a few days ago?
