Harriet Fell (Sheldon Brown's missus) has some pretty incredible achievements on and off a bike, but her account of the 1975 Paris-Brest-Paris is nothing short of inspirational.
Slightly unfortunate surname for a bike rider. ;)

I forgot about her, Vee Vee! Glad I saw this thread to relive that moment! I can't imagine piloting all that with no help!
But she is getting help! Look at how the little one holds the duvet!

Just looked up the report:
http://www.cyclingnews.com/races/british-road-championships-ne/elite-womens-road-race/results
Race shortened to 48k? That's hardly a racing distance. Well done to Emma Pooley nonetheless.
There was a bad crash in the first lap which led to the race being shortened.
Pooley snuck away in the final kilometre to win. Armistead then outsprinted Cooke for second. Cooke has subsequently been moaning about team tactics, complaining that they aren't 'fair'. Suck it up.

She's still a very strong rider, but it seems to me that her knee problems are taking their toll, not to mention the team-finding difficulties. Let's see if she can up her game to hold off young riders like Armitstead. She's won everything you could win, anyway, so if her career ended tomorrow it would have been great.

While we're about it: Lizzie Armitstead did AMAZINGLY at the road race nationals - remember she's better known as a track cyclist. When Wiggo rode up a hill everyone was like "ooh, isn't he brave" - well, you didn't see him getting silver at the nationals this week, did you?!
(obv Bradley Wiggins is still amazing, but I'm just trying to point out that Armitstead might be just a teeny bit more amazing)

her hair is nicer than wiggo's
gold silver and bronze at the worlds was quite nice too.

Maybe two years ago you would have had a point, but she's 21 now. :)
I agree, by the way.

We'll see if that's still true when Marianne Vos has finished.
