I know - its mad isn't it.

All I can think, is its from a time where long seatposts weren't around and would have a long riser stem... Prolly a way to have a low toptube like modern mtbs do while still giving strength to the seattube.

Can't imagine CR would forget building something like that, so getting info should be easy.
