All those Vigorelli make me want to get one.
The Benotto look wonderful, wish I had this bike when I was a kids.
Got a frame, an Ernie Clements that's just right for the bike I want to build, 700c but enough clearance for 30c tyres + 45c mudguard, 57ST/56TT, and butted 531;

Cue Ed...

Hah!
It got coaster hubs on it, and the rear brake braze-on is going to be use for a rear light powered by a dynamo hubs.
Can't wait to finish it, should be a nice little runabout.

those mudguards are dapper, they the velo orange ones?

I've got to say nice job ed, that looks cracking, I'm seriously considering building something like this for myself. If I did thats exactly how I'd want it to look. My only problem is being 6'4", so frames tend to look rather ugly in my size, i might suffer a 23" just because it looks nicer

Pretty much, need to get those washer to prevent the mudguard from rattling.

new tire tiem, my rolla can run up to 35c, so i'm considering 32c rando's thar weigh in at 550g ea, as opposed to 490g ea for 28c. should i do it? the main thing i am worried about is noticing the extra weight (current tires are 240g ea), are there any lighter puncture resistant large tires? and should i do 28 or 32? would 32 still fit through a brake caliper?
-
• #32912
I prefer larger tyres but mainly because I go off road with them. I noticed the weight when first changing but can't remember it now as I am just used to them.
Some of the lightest very puncture resistant tyres are Ribmo's and the 28s come up big as they are really 28 (the 35s are huge compared to other 35s)
A 32 will probably not fit through a brake caliper unless you have a release mechanism on caliper and hood/lever.
You're gearing will also slightly increase so they may feel a bit harder work because of that too. -

cheers. hmm, rimbo's are almost double the price of rando's for a 130g weight saving. i may just dive in for the 32c's and see how they do.
cheerz for the gears heads up, i was considering going down anyway (already on 69) spin to win!

Ed, looks like a Tom Crowther badge on the seat tube there...
CURIOUS

Yes, Ribmo's are not cheap but then that old overused saying goes along the lines of "cheap, light, strong - pick two" for a reason :-)

I'm really planning on getting a vigorelli so looking at these with interst. Everyone's going for black on theirs???
any whites / blue bar tape, saddles etc?
-
• #32917
^ I think the logic with black is with a frame that loud, if you start trying to colour code with white deeeeep-Veeeeeez and blue spokes its just going to look gash.
Silver componants would work imo and blue or white bar tape, but any more and you'll end up with something closer to this than the nice builds above.

Check out the Bontrager H2 35c tyres.

^^Agreeed, but you've got to give them some props for sourcing a rim with almost all the colours to match the frame...
-
• #32921
that front rim is bad. It's good to get a look at a few were things have gone wrong. Maybe a quick scan of the anti thread.

Hey Ed, can I get a close up of the crest on the seat tube of that bike?
-
• #32923
it's a shop sticker from FAILSworth, Manchester;

That's interesting, here's TC's badge:
