...commuting thought the winter without full guards...
did you realize that not exactly everybody is willing to ride their bike in the cold time of the year? :)

The seat post and stem happily came away from the rusty Holdsworth. The awkward removal of the cottered cranks now awaits.
This looks fantastic. Amazing what a bit of elbow grease can do! What have you got planned for it?

When he posted his Dodici a couple of pages back he said something about having never ridden in clipless before and didn't want his first ride to be 1500km. it was along those lines anyway
Worst photo ever...
Pompino frame and fork, on-one track crankset and wheels from a plug
put spd-sl back on since i realised i hate horizontal straps (stupid purchase 5 months ago, just turned up so i wacked them on. bad idea)
still needs stem bars and brakes, hence the steerer being stupid long and the silly stem.

that is lovely
a little bit bigger and i'd be all over that -

Old man's bike.
Just saying.
You need a wet arse to be authentic?

Cheers! The original spokes are probably 80% rust so the wheels will need rebuilding. Other than that, just thinking of cleaning down all the components and re-greasing the moving bits. It looked like: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/nkilgariff/HoldsCats/Cat1966/Cyclone66.jpg back in the day. I'm tempted to leave it five speed as original but if it's not too much hassle will change it to single-speed.

no, but the young are care free and wouldn't worry about a wet arse - hence old man's bike.

Wheelset is pretty much done now, built the rear one up today with a Mavic Open Pro CD, instead of the Hson, on to a Gran Compe hub.
Will be picking up a Shamal as an extra front wheel tomorrow.
Hopefully the frame will be back from the painters tomorrow also. -

Nice one. Looks amazing.
In my experience, unless you've a workstand it's easier to bash the cotter pins out with wheels in. That way you can stand the bike up and rest the cranks on a pile of wood or books or something to keep them steady while you give the pins a right good whack with a hammer. You'll probably need something to get into the hole when there's been no more pin showing- I've used an old allen key before and hit that.
Good luck with it.
Hope you're keeping the old bits. They look like Williams C34 cranks.
-
• #32790
Please god don't hit them with a hammer - that way frame damage lies. If you absolutely must, then the only support should be a length of heavy walled tube around the cotter pin and resting on the underside of the crank, so that all the load goes through the thickness of the crank into the tube and thence to the floor, and none of it has to transfer through any other part of the bike.

hopefully my front wheel/tyre/tube will be here in the morning. Cant wait, seems a big step forward in the build, then down to last few bits
toeclips/straps
stembolt.
chain.
handlebar tape
front brakeMega skint at the minute, so I've just been buying bits as I sold stuff on ebay lol
build funded thus far by
4 x cans of guinness (which I swapped for a 26" back wheel, that I then swapped for the rusty old frame/cranks/headset/saddle)
1 x mountain bike (sold for £40)
2 x old adidas trainers (sold on ebay £50) -

what you on about ed?
i like it
-
• #32795
I think it is certainly the best one I have ever seen!

or one of, I dont like the frame personally.

what you on about ed?
i like it
that what I said.
-
• #32798
I think it looks better than most Vigorelli's because it's a normal man size frame, instead of most you see, which are geared towards 'fixie trix' and usually smaller...

did i just scoble myself?

New Members Compass Beer Rides: 7pm Departure Trafalgar Sq
http://www.lfgss.com/thread15291-22.htmlThings we do well on this forum, organise and go on a regular basis to Drinks, wherever they may be, and Ride.
So in the spirit of these two elements, comes the all new,
New Members Compass Beer Rides. It has been noted that meeting up with a big group of forumengers that you don't know in a pub can be slightly intimidating. So to make it less so, this idea has been put forward to combine drinks and rides.
Think of it as a Forum Fresher's week, without the hazing, so that the previous months new members get a chance to meet up with, and ride with fellow forumengers. Talk bikes, find out where drinks are, and get a good ride in at the same time
You can come out to the beers closest to you, or trek out to a beers on the otherside of town, safe in the knowledge that you'll be with people who a) know where they are going, and that b) someone will be heading back in your general direction so you can ride home in the company of another forumenger. So For One Week, there will be rides from Trafalgar Sq, to the Beers,
Monday - Souths @ The Coach and Horses SW4 7EX
Tuesday - Norths @ The Flask N6 6BU or
Tuesday - South Easts @ The Roebuck SE1 4YG
Wednesday - Easts @ The Royal Inn on the Park E9 7HJ
Thursday - Wests @ The Peartree W6 8HJA couple of regulars from each beers will be at Trafalgar Sq from approx 6.30 for a prompt 7pm departure, and will take any new member who so wishes for a ride which will arrive at beers/polo.
The Next Compass Beer Rides will be
Aug 16-22 2010.The route to beers from Trafalgar Sq is to be decided by the regular who will be leading the group.
So New Members start here, come down to the ride to the beers, introduce yourself to other new and regular members, get a good ride into a beers, enjoy a soothing alcoholic beverage in the soothing presence of your new found bike friends and get a warm and fuzzy feeling at being welcomed into the collective forum bosom.
